That's what I get when I try and check the spelling when composing a message.

Path is fine afaik.

Nope. I get the cursor back straight after I do 'kmail' (as opposed to getting the cursor back when a program you shell finishes)

Went though the whole compose new mail, type some crap, check spelling, quit kmail and nothing got dumped to the console.

Make sure ASpell is set up in KDE..  I had a similar problem and fixed it by setting things up...   To do this you need to:

- Open the KDE Control Center

- Choose: KDE Components, then Spell Checker

- In the Spell Checker window, make sure the 'dictionary' and 'client' boxes are set to ASpell

This also fixed (I didn't realize it was broken) the spell checker in the kwrite text editor as well. I'm a happy chappy. 

Thanks must go to kjpetrie also. I can't believe, being a command line kinda guy, that I forgot to check the output of a gui program from the shell when having difficulty with it.

I'm having this problem with Kate, Kmail, and Tomboy in PCLOS 2009.1. I get the same error message. I applied jwt873's fix, but I still get the error message. Oddly, spell-checking in Opera works, but not in the other programs.
