"reduce loading time of the browser"
« on: August 23, 2009, 07:34:05 AM »
I've just found this addon for Firefox.

It says "Vacuum'ing can significantly reduce loading time of the browser and speed it up."
Take a look.  ;)

Note: as of 8/23, this addon is listed as experimental.
Fair warning: I am a whiny, selfish brat who should be denied access to 2010, per a moderator. Box: Acer Aspire One 110-xxxx model. XP wiped (and flushed), 2010 gnome (despite mod) grafted onto 8g flash HD via livecd.

Also options are in Russian at this time.  I tried it, but didn't even see it's icon. Not sure how to use it.

You can "Vacuum" your FireFox Places database with BleachBit (it's in the repos). There is no need to pump your FF with tons of add-ons :)

No problem here  :) . You can set autohide its icon (sec). By the way it is in the lower right corner of you FF.

I love firefox 3.5, but it doesn't seem snappy on loading... may be after a few seconds it's snappier and THE BEST.
It still takes some 4 sec to load...

Wow! Nice tip plambi. Never knew it existed and that you could actually "clean" the partition like you do on the other side. Any other maintenance programs? Can you view the PCL drive graphically like with M$?

PCC and Synaptic also take a long time to open, the latter 40 seconds! Seems too long to me...

I'm not sure what do you mean - graphical presentation of your drive(s)?

In that case, I will recommend KdirStat (it's in the repos), or - Krusader's "Third hand"... This is the best orthodox dual-panel filemanager. Sorry, Konq :)

(laughing) Well.

We pretty much flame-broiled THAT add-on, didn't we?

Apologies if I didn't express myself correctly. In M$, when defragging, it displays a chart with small squares (red for fragmented, white for empty space, blue for used space, etc.) and I've often wondered if Linux has such a display (or similar) although, I know, defragging is unnecessary.

Riki, sorry, buddy, but I do not know such a program for Linux file systems. They are not so much vulnerable to fragmentation. Let's stop here ;)

Look at the picture below - it's the best I think you could use for your needs.

Sorry for my bad English...
