Installing KDE packages
« on: August 09, 2009, 05:46:50 PM »
Hi:
With Xfce edition installed, are we banned to install the kde packages avaiable in the Repo? ???
I installed Kmymoney2, it pulled down a few kde dependencies. On my next boot-up i ended up with a KDE desktop and kde menu.
How come?
I had to go back to the synaptic's history and remove all those installed packages in order to get back my Xfce desk top.  :(
Do I have to forget about my desired Kmymoney2 package?
Thanks!

That's why we have Sessions on the log in screen. You can have more than one desktop installed, and just choose the one you want to run. If you need Kmymoney2, and it needs a basic, minimal KDE installed, to order to work, you can still log in to Xfce, then run Kmymoney2 from there. Back in my SUSE days, I installed every desktop available, and played around with all of them, as the mood struck me.

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

Thank You! Alas, I removed the installed packages. Nonetheless, I know now what to do!

You can get them back, just as easily as the first time. if you wish. ;D

Hi Marco ... if this is a package you really require i will be making the final release a full monster with KDE Libs and Gnome Libs also ... so you will be able to use kmymoney without loosing the desktop

the only reason you lost it is because it also installed the kdebase and things ....

Kori
Hi Kori:
Thanks for offering. Sorry for my late response.I sure am interested in your suggestion and am eagerly looking forward to the final release. Appreciate it!
Regards!

Agreed. Gnome doesn't bother me as much but we could all do without having to pull in kdebase when we just want to install a few KDE applications...

Thanks - this is good to hear! It will be great if we have an option to leave KDE 4 on one side and still run our favourite KDE apps.

I second this vote!  I am looking for a KDE3 replacement desktop and XFCE/Phoenix is currently the front runner but I will still need kmymoney and the kde libs will be useful for that.
