« on: July 31, 2009, 05:15:18 AM »
with pclos2009.2, I cannot login with a preselect user (no error message in control center, root mode).

Thank you

The same problem in many new installations of pclos 2009.2: nobody has my problem? Nonbody has any idea about?

Log in as root, then add a new user, see if that will work.  :)

Try booting from th e"Safe Mode" option, then see if you can log in as a user or root...

Excuse me, for my prior answer  :-[
I tried to do as you suggest and the result was that I cannot login with a graphical interface: the screen appeared as a terminal (textual), with written "going single user"; and then I don't know how do anything, I rebooted the pc...

Ok, I went back and read your original post..Now I need some information, Can you boot to a desk top?
Are you trying to set the "Auto Login" so you can go directly to the desktop on booting the machine?

Not: it is impossibile "auto-login" (no user pre-selection at all and system stop since I select a user and type the password)  :(
Thank you

Quick question If you don't mind is this a new install or is this an upgrade. what are the specs of your machine. What were you doing when this started. These little things I mentioned and other little details can really help to narrow things down as to why things happen like they do..

here is a link to my issue

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,68580.msg559756.html#msg559756

cause I'm have been scouring the forums for answers and as usual in the past its probably something simple and viola its done

UPDATED!! ASUS U52F Notebook i5 CPU,  4Gb ram, 640Gb Hard drive Dual-Boot Win 7Pro/KDE 4 3.2.18-pclos2.bfs

1) Just a little correction: after a logout no preslection, neither autologin, but after a reboot the autologi run.
2) The hardware is exactly the same that was running the preselection (with pclos 2009.1): the problem is the software (2009.2).
Maybe I have first maintained the repo Belgian (but is the default for the 2009.2 in my coutry, Italy, sorry)
Thank you

I will try the logout on my system with the Auto login function selected in PCLOS. This should tell us if its a bug or what.. ;)

Ok, my system does auto login at boot up. Then if I log out,   it does offer the login screen for re-entry .
I would also say this, PCLinuxOS 2010 will be out shortly, I think I would wait for it.
If you want to play around a little, install the very latest Kernel from synaptic and see what happens.

Just to be sure I understood you If I understood you correctly, your system auto login's at Boot correctly, but does not offer the login screen after manually you logoff.

Hopefully this will help some.. :D :D ;)

Same here - my auto login works just fine and it offers the login screen for re-entry when I manually log out.

The only time I remember not having the regular login screen is after logging out of a live cd session  OR after PCLos is freshly installed but apart from those occasions its always  worked for me...

I can not duplicate this in all of my systems, and I sure have tried every way I know how.
Sorry I wasn't able to help.  :(
