Installing QCAD Community Edition
« on: July 27, 2009, 02:45:11 PM »
I am considering loading the QCAD Community Edition.  I assume this does not get done through the Synaptic Package Mgr. but directly from the QCAD site.  Once downloaded from the QCAD site, it appears there is a Readme file that hopefully provides installation instructions.  On the QCAD site under their description of the Community Edition it says that Qt developer edition 3.3.4, C++ compiler, and GNU tools are required.  I don't know what these are or whether I have them or not.  I loaded, updated, and started using PCLOS only a couple of months ago.  Any help would be appreciated.

Has anyone heard anything about whether or not Google is going to produce a Linux version of Sketchup?

Sproggy, another CAD program you might add to your list is Open Cascade.  I found it doing a Google search (opencascade.org).  If I understand the website correctly, it is free to download and use but you have to pay for support.
Thanks,
Bill

As you are installing from outside the repo's, I have split / moved this to the advanced section..

As far as compliling the app from source goes, find your list of requirements / dependencies, and start searching through synaptic for them..  a quick google search for dependencies suggests that you will probably need libqt3-devel

You might also find the following general how-to compile from source helpful:

QCad is in the repos. Synaptic has a good search function.

Sorry.  I didn't notice that this thread had been moved until today.  A few weeks back, I did a search in Synaptic for "CAD" and only came up with one app designed for electrical work.  I assumed that QCAD wasn't on the list.  I found it yesterday and loaded it.  All is well.  I'm still curious if anyone knows anything about Open Cascade.
Thanks,
Bill
