Can't deal with KDE 3.5
« on: July 15, 2009, 02:13:51 AM »
I just installed PCLinux yesterday and I can't stand KDE 3.5. The plasma desktop keeps crashing on me.

So my question is: Can I upgrade to any version of KDE 4 right now?

If yes, then how?

If no, then I'm going to have to wait to try this distro.

Thanks

Mark

That's rather odd, considering there is no plasma desktop on KDE 3.5.

So wait. Nobody is holding a gun to your head.

That was kind of a rude response, shocking that it comes from an administrator.

I guess I said Plasma because I'm used to KDE 4.

You're right no one is holding a gun to my head.

I would appreciate helpful responses please.

Markcynt: If you look at the testing KDE 4 thread, and can partition your hard drive for a spare 10-20Gb, you may want to help us test KDE4, whilst running a preferred distro with KDE4 fully working in another. You can maybe help us along here.

To me, a desktop is a desktop, a means of getting to your applications though I must admit KDE4 is pretty. Not sure it's any more or less functional than KDE3 though, I have kooldock added to my KDE3 for extra icons at the top of the screen which appear when you move your mouse to the top edge.

You can try task-xfce, task-gnome etc from the repos also.
PCLinuxOS has no wealthy sponsors and can only survive with your donations! Don't wait it might be too late.

That sounds good (testing KDE4). Is it in the repos or is there a link to download the ISO?

No more rude than your original post. From your reaction I'd guess you now understand how I felt reading it.

Now that is much more mellow, and courteous. If you can continue it that manner, I'll bet I can too. ;D ;D

As Xenaflux said, stick around, and make yourself at home. You will get used to me. I don't actually bite. I might nibble a little bit, but never bite. 7272andy gave you a good link to follow, but do remember this has not actually been officially released. It's a work in progress, so you install it at your own risk. If you are really into KDE4, you might have some suggestions to offer in that thread, that could be helpful, and would also be appreciated. ;)
