Would you like bigger fonts in Firefox? Here's how!

exploder

Just like the title says, if you find yourself squinting to read some of the text on web pages, this might help you out.

In Firefox go to, "Edit", "Preferences", click on the "Content" tab, in the middle of the tab you will see "Fonts and Colors", click on the "Advanced" button, take away the check in " Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above", now just click on the button for "minimum font size", and choose the smallest size font that you can still read. (12 or 13 seems to do the trick for me.)

I did not see this tip posted anywhere and it is one of the fist things I do on a fresh install, I thought some people might benefit from this tip.

Thanks to everyone who donates. You keep the servers running.

Well, I just realized it is not quite so easy.

Is also has to do with the screen size and resolution and the screen bits per inch (96 or 120)...

I just changed screen size (from 17" to 19" and from 1024x768 to 1280x1024) and everything became very tiny. I started changing font sizes in KDE, Kwrite and Konqueror - menues and lists changed its size, but not the webpages (here is where your information is great!)

Then I had to switch back to my old 17" for a short time and all fonts was huge! And I started to change the size back in all programs again! And in Firefox settings as well...

Now, using the 19" screen again, I thoght: is there another way to change size - all in one? Then I found out that in KDE I can force the pixels per inch to be 96 or 120. But when I changed to 120 the size became OK, but now the picture was quite blurry. So that was not the trick!

So what I am trying to say is:

first: set your screen size and resolution (and perhaps pixels per inch) , then set your font sizes.

Another issue related to this:

It is crazy that many webpagemakers makes so tiny fonts so it is almost impossible to read! And they set the fonts fixed so it can't be changed with ctrl+ or ctrl- which usually should change font size. And when I force a bigger font size in my browser, som text doesnt fit in the tiny boxes or columns, making the site unreadable. So please, web developers: Make your pages flexible. Some people can't see very well, and they can't read your pages.

Don't know if it helps in your case but under the same advanced button you can uncheck "Allow pages to allow their own fonts instead my sellection above"

The trick seems that you get used to that one type of fonts that you choose, making it easier to read (in theory that is  :D ). Worth a try?
