UFO: Alien Invasion (new)
« on: July 05, 2009, 12:08:06 PM »
UFO: Alien Invasion is a strategy game featuring tactical combat against hostile alien forces which are about to infiltrate earth at this very moment. You are in command of a small special unit which has been founded to face the alien strike force. To be successful on the long run, you will also have to have a research team study the aliens and their technologies in order to learn as much as possible about their technology, their goals and the aliens themselves.

UFO: Alien Invasion is a free game, licensed under GNU GPL, heavily inspired by the X-COM series by Mythos and Microprose. The first game of the series, UFO DEFENSE (AKA ENEMY UNKNOWN), became a classic and, in our honest opinion, is one of the best games ever made. UFO:AI is neither a sequel nor a remake of UFO DEFENSE - we simply had the urge to create a similar strategy game, which will hopefully be as entertaining as the original was for the players (and for the developers, of course ;) ).

This is awesome game and it should be in the pclos repos! It's also multilingual.

Can't find a license on that site.  It is Sourceforge, so it should be GPL, but I can't find it.

Maybe this?
/usr/lib/libcurl.so.4
Not sure if it's the same thing, but might be worth a shot.

I've got the src and the run files.  If you or I can figure out the dependency problem I think we can get this in the repo.  The AlienArena spec file looks pretty close to what is needed, shouldn't be to hard to figure out, if you, or I can get it to run in the first place.

Thanx Joble :)
This way i can also learn the process of getting the package done for PCLOS repo, so i can later contribute packages by myself and my friends. I remember running some older version of this game on pclos2007, but they obviously changed the dependencies from then.

I serached for ibcurl-gnutls package, but there is no info of its existence :) i found somewhere that the libcurl has to be compiled with gnutls support for ibcurl-gnutls.so.4 to be compiled.

So i will try first to make symlink as you suggested from libcurl -> ibcurl-gnutls and to see if it works.

I've checked the dynamic links:
ldd ufo

and only this library is missing, so everything other that that seems ok.

I'll get back to you later,
regards

Works like a charm :D

Code: [Select]
ln -s /usr/lib/libcurl.so.4 /usr/lib/libcurl-gnutls.so.4
I'll try to compile from source now and see also where data files goes.

Thunderstorm took the power out yesterday, I didn't get to work on it much.  Have you looked at that spec file?

I've instaled minime under virtualbox and now i'm seting the local repo.
I'm trying to do this by the book :)

As i understood, package needs to be suplied as source rpm?

So i'll try to compile it first and see what are the dependencies. I'll post what i did tomorrow after work.

On which spec file do you mean? alienarena?

Yes, alienarena uses a datafile, that spec looks like it has all the elements we need to build this, just have to modify it accordingly.  Just wondered if you'd had a chance to look at it yet.

I've got the fedora and suse spec files.  A bit of differenc between the two.  Personally I prefer to modify the alienarena spec file with the information provided in the other two, but that's just me and I tend to do things the hard way, I think I learn more from it.  Waiting for you then, any progress?
