smudger,
You should never do partial upgrades. All or none. Doing partial upgrades will break your system sooner or later. When you have a situation as you describe, do a forum search to see if someone has posted about it. If you find nothing, post a new topic in the appropriate section. Give full and accurate details and information.
I just finished installing PCLinuxOS KDE4 2012.02 and did all the updates, but I cannot figure out how to get Libre Office installed. Below is a recap of what I have tried to do and the convoluted/unsuccessful results I have seen so far:
1) Clicked on LibreOffice Manager
-- popup progress bar rolling: LibreOffice Manager (version 3.5.4)
-- reloading package information
-- testing if system is uptodate.
-- A popup box said: "Old startup script detected and deleted.
Please run LibreOffice Manager again.
If you get this message again:
a) as root: remove the file: /tmp/xsulomanager
b) as normal user: run LibreOffice Manager.
Exiting ... " [OK]
2) Error message referred me to this file: lomanager-install.log
lomanager installation log file:

Downloading base-pack via wget . . . failed

3) Tried again, then got to (scroll to choose language) English (USA) [OK]
-- new popup: "Delete all downloaded lomanager RPM packages"
(default YES in 15 seconds)
-- new popup: "Installing Java. Please be patient

"
-- new popup: "Download and installation cancelled.
Please use the offline-installer described in important
Notes 1b in the lomanager-thread
4) Next, the system tried to open forum topic 59009 with Konqueror . . . but that would not work. Konqueror said: "Requested operation could not be completed" Unknown host. I have a good internet connection and Firefox works.
Why doesn't Konqueror work?
5) So, I opened topic 59009 with Firefox and saw 51 pages of notes to read. Wow!
Within the many thousands of words, I found this highlighted in red
Quick Instructions:
-> install the latest version (3.5.4, see last post in this thread)
-> run: PCmenu -> Office -> LibreOffice Manager
-> read the messages in the popup-windows, they are provided for a reason.
-> read the Important notes in this post, they are constantly updated and contain additional useful information for a successful installation of LibreOffice.
-> LibreOffice Manager will download LibreOffice and related files (Help, language packs) from LibreOffice. When a new LibreOffice version is available you will have to run LibreOffice LibreOffice Manager again to update to the latest LibreOffice version.
What a wild goose-chase!
Libre Office doesn't work.
Libre Office "Manager" doesn't work.
Konqueror doesn't work.
What do I need to do to get Libre Office installed and working
and also to get Konqueror to work?
PS: Did the synaptic reload again. Everything is up to date.
Checked for lomanager and found it is installed and up to date,
but it apparently does not work.
