I want to update to go-oo 3.2 as soon as the repo is updated. But I want to ask pinoc if the getopenoffice script makes changes to synaptics settings other than changing the repo site.

Here's why--

I mainly want to download the files & have them ready to apply to the new 2010.iso. I get slow d/l for the OO repo, so I would like to d/l them now at my leisure then when 2010.new arrives I'll have OO ready to install.

So---if I set synaptics to leave installed rpm's in the cache will the getopenoffice script alter that setting? My gut feeling is that it will let it be, but I want to check.

Hi John,
the repo is now synced and you can use getopenoffice to update to the fixed version 3.2.
If you set Synaptic to keep all packages then all your new OO-rpms will be kept under /var/cache/apt/archives/.
If you set Synaptic to delete all packages after installation then getopenoffice will detect this and offer you the option to keep the downloaded rpms for later.

General remark and only for those having already updated to or installed the previous buggy OO3.2:
a) run getopenoffice and select to "completely remove OO".
b) empty the Synaptic cache to avoid reinstalling the buggy rpms!
c) run getopenoffice and install OO3.2

Note: if you run a non en-US localized system then the current getopenoffice 1.5 can not remove OO unless you are going back to a en-US localization. Getopenoffice 1.6 will fix this bug and be available today/tomorrow.

Note: this updated version of getopenoffice is included in the upcoming 2010 release. If you want to install this version already now on your current installation, then please copy/paste the following two commands into a terminal in your user-account:

If you want to keep them for the new install don't forget to move them somewhere safe before you install and put them back afterwards, as /var/cache/apt/ will be deleted when the partition is formatted.

Hello Everyone: I just installed OO 1.4 from the "Get Open Office" tab in the menu, and I still have the same problem as in the thread I started herehttp://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,67654.msg551464.html#msg551464. There is no difference. It still "locks up" as soon as I click "save" or "save as" or Export as PDF. The only way I can get out of it is to kill the process. Also if I start it from a terminal, I get the same error as in that thread. So far, nothing has changed. Thanks for any help.

please install getopenoffice 1.6 as described two posts above. Then
- run getopenoffice 1.6 and select "completely remove",
- start a terminal and enter

su -c 'apt-get clean'- run getopenoffice 1.6 and install OpenOffice

if you still have problems with your files then
- make sure to not have any broken packages or missing dependencies on your system which may cause the issues you reported in the other thread.
- try opening the files on a different computer where OO is installed and see if it works there. If it does then you probably have another problem with your current system. Either you get this fixed or you simply wait for the new 2010 release which will be available sometime soon.

Well no broken packages or dependency issues, or so says synaptic. Any problems with the 1.6 version and KDE 3.5 ? O K followed the instructions above and still get the same issue. It just "locks up" as soon as I click the save button.

I'm running 3.5.10, on a 4 year old  Dell laptop.   OO3.2 opens in less than 4 seconds and has no issues that I have found----YET.  YMMV.  

Edit:   From a cold reboot.  It takes about 12 seconds to open.

I got some bouncycastle warnings when I installed it but other than that it has been running like a champ now with the correct packages from go openoffice.

Do you have any further functions in mind? I am a MiniMe fan & like to keep my system to what I personally use. Is it possible to do a selective OO install? ie. leave off math & base which I don't use. Not really an issue at all, just a thought.

Hi John,
I assume a selective OO install would require a customized compilation from the source package, a very tedious task and waste of time as GO-OO already provides localized package sets. If you don't need math and base you could try to uninstall only those components. Wrt further functions, no, nothing in mind so far: install, reinstall, proper uninstall; a user-friendly selection of OO-localizations; checking for Java, appropriate fonts, and minimum space requirements (especially when running on a live-CD); backward compatibility with all OO-versions back to PCLOS 2007; verification of proper Synaptic setup, auto-configuration and later removal of OO repo, and the option to keep all packages for later; is about all I can think of when handling the installation of OO. A selective install is not possible but of course I'm very happy to hear about any other functionality which could be added to getopenoffice.

Deleted .ooo2 and .ooo3, startup time 47 seconds
After that its snappy.
I'm not searching for a solution, have to do a clean reinstall soon I'm shure.
