brian,
what you should do next was described in my previous post. Please follow these steps and provide clear details on any errors of any of the following steps:
- Make sure the 2007 installation is fully updated and functional. If you can not bring it uptodate install the latest 2009.2, I can not help you with an outdated installation.
- Ensure to have a working Internet connection, (if you use a proxy setup then see the previous post),
- run the latest version of GOO (1.1) and provide details of any errors.
- Alternatively you can try these steps.

good luck,
-p.

synaptic seems to be downloading files now (after following the steps in your very last line).  I am not sure that I want to fully update to 2009 since I think some of my installed applications might get broken along the way.  If this doesn't work, I guess I will remove openoffice and download the 2.12 rpm and try to install that.  Does that sound reasonable?

I am confused.  I have used  OO for years and not upgraded because I had a landline and you know how many hours that means,  Now I have a fast connection and I am having trouble opening the docx files sent from friends who have upgraded to MSOffice 2007.  so I have read the threads about getOO and went to synaptic and loaded getOO 1.21.  It is now in configuration as an option.  So I ran it, it asked for my root password, and that ended the episode.  Dialog boxes!! none   what did I do wrong.  This Synaptic thing does not work for me or so it seems.  HELP!!!  I am running PCLos 2007 on this IBM thinkpad 40.

hi,
you need to have an uptodate installation for getopenoffice to work, in fact it may then still not work due to the updated toolchain. I can only look into this next week when I will be back at work. Sorry for the inconvenience but right now I have no means to test or try/do anything, you will have to wait until next week.

ok, smoothly updated a KDE4-VM to the new toolchain. GREAT job Tex and all packagers!!!
For info and after some tests: getopenoffice 1.2 works perfectly fine with the new base. Edit: no, it doesn't! see next post.

For anyone having problems with getopenoffice: ensure your system is uptodate, then
1) run getopenoffice and select 'completely remove Openoffice'
2) run getopenoffice again:
a) you should now get the window showing the different OO-locales: select your locale of choice and go ahead
b) you still get the window with the choice to completely remove OO: your system has a borked OO-installation due to other unusual practice which has happened to the system. Normally you should never arrive here but ok, so to fix that follow these steps:
i) close getopenoffice
ii) open Synaptic, Search for and Mark for Removal the following two packages:
openoffice.org-ure
openoffice.org3.1-mandriva-menus
then press Apply to remove all OO packages, getopenoffice has already removed the other settings in step 1.
iii) close Synaptic, run getopenoffice again and follow 2a

hope this helps,
-p.

Trying to run 1.3.x on a fully updated PCLOS 2007/2009 KDE3 install.  I can tell the script that I want to install/add locale.  There are then two flashes as windows seem to be written to the screen and just as quickly removed and then a dialog appear saying "you have chosen to exit.  No changes were applied to your system" even though I have not chosen anything.

When I run it from the console, the same behavior occurs with no output to the console.

This is an improvement over prior versions in that it runs at all, but still not quite all the way there.

Any ideas?

Hi mikki,

thanks for the info. Confirmed here. At present, Zenity dialogs with a list result in a segfault. I assume this is caused by the current gtk2 update issue, I will fix it as soon as it can be done. Please monitor the OP for further news.

thanks again,
-p.

announcing getopenoffice 1.5 with these changes:
- changed from ftp-protocol to http-protocol for the dutch freebsd repo as some users seem to have issues when accessing ftp-sites
- updated to work with OO 3.2
- added 7 new OO-locales, total now: 110 OO-locales.

Note: this updated version of getopenoffice is included in the upcoming 2010 release. If you want to install this version already now on your current installation, then please copy/paste the following two commands into a terminal in your user-account:
Code: [Select]
wget http://ftp.nl.freebsd.org/pub/os/Linux/distr/texstar/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2010/RPMS.main/getopenoffice-1.5-1pclos2010.i586.rpm
su -c 'rpm -Uvh getopenoffice-1.5-1pclos2010.i586.rpm'

Now you can update to, or install, the new OpenOffice 3.2 by running
Code: [Select]
getopenoffice in the terminal or from
PCmenu -> System -> Configuration -> Get OpenOffice

regards,
-p.
