Yes, but what if the user wants to let it finish unattended and keep the packages?

I don't quite see the logic. It still stops at a box waiting for user input - just the next box asking about dictionaries, with the decision not to keep the packages already taken. I can't see what is gained - less than half a second I think, and busy people with multiple machines have to sit over the process to prevent it deleting the packages.

For the 'unattended installation' folks, couldn't all the decision making be placed right up front, all the choices made immediately after launching the script?

Launch the script, select the language, decide to keep or dump the rpm's, then let the actual installation proceed unattended.

That might make everyone happy...

If that is possible, I would be a good idea. We have installed Libreoffice a pair of days ago on someone else's machine after we installed PCLinuxOS on it (to replace a broken install of a distro that the name begins with a "k" and ends by "untu"). We have installed Lomanager 3 times, because 2 times something went wrong.

don't see what is the problem to install lomanager, post the problems in broken packages. Will see what can be done about moving all decisions to the beginning of the script when I have time for that next week or so.

Hi,

Nothing is broken. It's just mistakes done by my companion who had never used it before. Nothing that needs a report... but the idea developed above seems good to me, as it may make it even easier that way.

Thank you very much for all. :)

lomanager3.3.2-2 out with these changes:
- moved all decisions to the beginning of the script (after you select a language some info windows will still show but they autoclose after some secs)
- added: LO_OfflineInstall script + instructions are placed in the directory where the packages are saved, if saving packages was selected. I will not explain how to use this new script in order to test how many of you will actually read the instructions in this directory.  ;D

Hi,

I have just tested Desmoric's translation for French for LOmanager. He has improved it a lot, and will submit it soon. During the test I did of his translations, I have re-installed, while reinstalling, I have used the option "keep packages in /tmp" and packages are there:
Code: [Select]
[root@localhost LC_MESSAGES]# cd /tmp/
[root@localhost tmp]# ls
gpg-PlCeaS/       libgksu-uGNxMp/              LO-rpms/

[root@localhost tmp]#

After this, I tested "Quit", translation was fine. Then I tested "Uninstall" and translations where fine there too. Now I want to "Install", but the program didn't test if he found the packages in /tmp and he is re-downloading them all ? Couldn't it detect the packages in the /tmp directory and install them ? Additionnally, it just sent a window stating "in good French" that the download and install were interrupted. :-(

I have an additional question : where are the chains to translate that are relevant to the messages in the upper bar of the window, while performing installations ?

Thanks,
Mélodie

PS: just after, the next window displayed a message stating that it was now installed and available. Confusing... :|

Hi melodie,

thanks for getting updated translations, please send me the po-file for inclusion in the next update. To your questions:
- reinstalled and packages are kept in /tmp/LO-rpms: ok
- uninstall and then install: tested and works as expected, don't know what you did to get an error, maybe you killed the script while it was running?
- lomanager will not test for existing packs in /tmp/LO-rpms: yes, because normally you do not need to install stuff twice on the same PC. The purpose of this directory is to keep the files for offline installation or installation on another PC and for this reason a self-explaining ReadmeFirst.txt and a LO_OfflineInstall.sh has been added and should be used from within this directory (as indicated in my previous post..)
- there is no need to translate the text in the upper bar of the window (LibreOffice Manager 3.3.2)
- as stated before, French translations can only appear on a French localized system.

have a nice day,
-p.

Hi pinoc,

Thanks for your explanations.

You can thank Desmoric who has done the translations (I just asked and tested), and get his files here : Re: Traduction lomanager en français

I have a new question : shouldn't theses ReadmeFirst and off line install script get translations too ?

Regards,
Mélodie

hello geoff here again, i have the libre office without the GUI installer (as i would see it) for some reason, now prob i have found with trying to install using instructions in the readme is when it asks for password the root password is root and it says sorry try again , ive been at it for 3 or 4 days on and off,(accidentally killed the system 3 times now and resurected it once ) is this  an ' i need to change root password ' or a prob i have invoked, i open a terminal from the tools menu as right clik wont give me the option of terminal and it says

[geoffy@localhost LibO_3.3.2rc2_Linux_x86_install-rpm_en-US]$  sudo urpmi *.rpm
Password:
Sorry, try again.
Password:
i type root into password each time.
 also this one
[geoffy@localhost RPMS]$  sudo urpmi *.rpm
Password:
Sorry, try again.
Password:

also really slow on the 100's of pages of comands in nutshell book this time, still going, wont give up.

Hi geoff,

don't quite understand what you are talking about, more details please:
1) libre office without the GUI installer : what is that? If you mean LO_OfflineInstall.sh then please read the ReadmeFirst.txt in the same directory.
2) the root password is root on the liveCD only, seems you have forgotten your own root password?
3) we do not use any of the following: LibO_3.3.2rc2, sudo, urpmi  ???

please read and follow the information here to install the latest version of LibreOffice in PCLinuxOS.
regards,
-p.

1: Now that you've published your password for the world to see, change it;)
2: OpenOffice is no longer used by PCLinuxOS.  LibreOffice is.  You need to update first, then the LibreOffice script will be available (and work) see this: http://tinyurl.com/4fcgj4z (It's at the top of every forum page).

For a new install (currently):
1) Do the install
2) Fix the Package Manager (as noted in the links above)
3) Update fully, and reboot
4) Install any additional apps, including the LibreOffice information noted in pinoc's reply...
