getopenoffice 1.8 will be available very soon and has these changes:
- updated to work with GO-OO3.2.1
- dialog message options fixed
- updated translations

Important:
- Please do not use any older version of getopenoffice because they will not work anymore. Instead, wait for the new version 1.8 to appear in Synaptic and use only this version.
- Users in Thailand should wait another day or two until the Thailand repo has synched with the main server

have fun,
-p.

GetOpenOffice 1.8-2:
- added updated Polish translation (thanks to Ector!)
- menu entry is now called OpenOffice Manager which better reflects the features of the script.

Pinoc. Are there any changes in the script concerning what the user sees in the script? I'm asking in order to translate it to Spanish,

Hi musonio,
no, the script itself is unchanged, only the menu entry has changed to a more meaningful name and the Polish translation was updated.

I have a "dumb" question, why isn't getopenoffice and getvirtualbox menu entries in the software center?
  ???
Wouldn't that be the logical place?

It would be the logical place if you are already a PCLinuxOS user.
However, if it is the first time you run PCLinuxOS, the first place you will check for openoffice is the Office entry. If you don't find it there, it may take you a while that in the software center there is a script that allows you to getopenoffice.

EDIT: I'm just trying to get into pinoc's strange brain. I personally think (and I am not alone in this) that the way that kmenu is organized is a complete mess.  ;D

this is why the menu entry is now called OpenOffice Manager which should better describe the purpose of the script. While I agree that it could be placed in the software section as well, I still think its first place should be where it is, in the Office section. But the design of the kmenu structure is done by others  ;)

I understand pinoc's reasoning about that. It makes perfect sense.

Does any one else have the problem that every time this this is updated, it wipes out all my settings and user-generated spelling dictionaries?  If this is a common problem, is there any way to keep it from happening?  It seems like the new update just doesn't pick up the old settings -- it just overwrites them.  Is this true or am i imagining things again?  Have a great evening!  :)  i need to start a new thread.  My keyboard will not input the "Enter" key into Firefox forum posts...

I downloaded LibreOffice from http://www.documentfoundation.org/download/ and it is a great app, it's still beta and has a few glitches but overall works as expected. Most of the developers from oracle open office have joined libreoffice.

Hi,

It's not K specific. The menus comply (more or less ?) to the xdg freedesktop specifications. The main point is that you can perfectly have OOo Manager in the Desktop section, and in the Software center section as well. How to do that ? One exemple is Geany, the text editor. It is in Development, and in Editors as well, thanks to Texstar.

Here is the line "Category" in it's desktop file:
Quote
Categories=GTK;Development;IDE;X-MandrivaLinux-MoreApplications-Editors;GNOME;

pinoc, what do you think ? Could OOo Manager, Vbox manager etc...  also be in 2 sections ?

Hi Melodie,
technically yes, but this decision is for Tex to make, not me, I don't want to fiddle with the menu setup he designed.

@frazelle09,
sometimes you can successfully update from an older OO-version and sometimes not. To ensure things work as expected I have set getopenoffice to always start with a fresh installation when updating. In future, you can try to backup your folder ~/.ooo3 before updating OO. Then, after having installed the newer OO-version, put back your backup folder into place. This may or may not work, depending on the newer version of OO. Or you do the backup only for your spelling directory inside ~/.ooo3/ and put that back later.

-p.

I see that it is also seen under "More applications > Configuration > OpenOffice Manager".

Could you suggest Texstar to remove it from this place (which is far in the menus and where we would often not think to look for it), and instead let us have it in the Software Center section ? :)

Mélodie

Thanks, pinoc -- i'll have to try that next time.

Have a great afternoon and thanks again for the post.  :)
