Hi again..

Whatever has happened your system is refusing to use the linux driver..  You'd really need to remove the windows driver (keeping a backup) and uninstall ndiswrapper..

But before trying that, one last effort!!

Reboot again, and do not setup internet!!!!

Open a root console and type:

modprobe ndiswrapper

See if this brings your network up..

Good luck,

Since i was last on, i have a Total re-install, completely wiped everything off.

Loaded the wireless drivers and done the following:-

Code:
sudo gedit /etc/modules
Add the following to the bottom:

Code:
rt2870sta
Edit the startup script:

Code:
sudo gedit /etc/rc.local
Add this near the end but before "exit 0"

Code:
sudo insmod /lib/modules/<kernel version>/wireless/rt2870sta.ko

configured as i normally do, rebooted,

and WALLAH internet without reconfiguring, yes straight in.

Feeling Nice, for now, got to do updates yet. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

EDIT: I used Kwrite instead of gedit, gedit is not installed initially, just thought i'd make that clear.

Not for certain here, but once I was digging about some of the scripts for wireless and thought I found an area to me that looked as though pan0 was being included in a blacklist area. I didn't mess about with changing the script line since I didn't have a adapter that gets named as pan0.

Since you're not to into digging into the system, this may not be an option for you.

There are ways to make udev have persistent naming for a given device, so in theory you could force your USB wireless adapter to be named wlan0 or whatever. Then related files would all have to be edited for the new name...... sounds like fun ay.. ;D

Anyhow maybe that script has something to do with why the settings don't stay and has to be reset everytime you log in?

See ya got it....great.

Well had to re-install, after installing 3 libs i was back to square 1.

These are the libs:-

libcrypto
libldap-2.3
libsasl2

Only installed them because libnfsidmap0-devel needed them. And  libnfsidmap0 was needed by another (can't remember) so i could get the net up and running.

beginning to wonder how far i can go before the next re-install, so maybe there is a problem with driver.

Hope someone can tell me otherwise.

C.A.D If you've got that script you was talking about, it just might come in handy, especially if it stops re-installs

Hey there CoolBreeze..

Mmm..  So the updates broke your wireless?

If you've reinstalled already just install the apps you really need, then remaster your system..

This way you can always just reinstall in a few minutes..

I'd hold on the updates for a week or two then try again..

Good luck,

wasn't the updates, they went perfect, even rebooted 4 times, everything was a ok.
it was the files that appeared to be needed by some of the progs for wireless, so i haven't bothered with them, still got internet no breaks so far.

That's why i haven't "marked solved" yet.Something is causing the break, i think between us we've done quite a bit, it may have to go to some one with programming

I installed the new 10.1 version. It immediately recognises my network card (WUSB600N). But when i try to connect to my network it says 'connection failed'. I can seem to connect to an unencrypted WiFi, but not to an encrypted one. Is there anyone else with this problem?

Read this.

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,71068.0.html

I took ages to get my USB wifi adapter working - the driver is also rt2870sta.

Looks like it was a problem with the device ID or something.

Now it works.
I had set AES+TIKP as encryption in the router settings, when i only select AES, it seems to work.
