It builds just fine.  And it will probably work great for most people who know how to use it, but.....

When it is installed, or uninstalled it changes users tmp link to a tmp folder owned by root.  So if someone looks around synaptic and thinks, oh this looks kool, and installs it, that's not a good thing.

Wow, that's quite a pickle.  ???
I'll try to take a look at the specfile and possibly the main program.

My tmp as with JohnBoy is a symlink to the tmp in the / directory.  By the way give yourself a big pat on the back. I did install your rpm on a new machine and it went just as well as the install .tar.gz from the Webmin site did.  Everything was picked up with the proper paths. All I had to do was the minor tweaks that I do to all my webmin systems I have running. Great job Jobble!

OK, this is bad.  I crashed my hacked up system today, and wouldn't you know, after a fresh reinstall, I tried webmin again, and my tmp link survived it!  Sending it up!

So the "hacked up system" was the problem? ;) ;D

But if your other packages worked on that "hacked up system"... what will they do on the new system?  ;D ;D ;D

hehe, good question, guess I better install them again and find out.  But, I wasn't the only one that tested them so I expect it will be OK.   ;D ;D

..it looks like I'm a little late getting back to this, but I downloaded Jobles SRPM this morning, commented out the perl script that checks for tmp and replaced it with rm / mkdir:

Code: [Select]
#
rm -fR /tmp/.webmin
mkdir /tmp/.webmin

..it seems to build and install fine; I never got around to testing much of webmins functionality (just logged in, before I had to leave..), but it doesn't seem to have broken anything!?

If that's a better option, tex might be interested in it.  I've sent it to contribs and am done with it.   :)

I just realized I didn't mention the main point in my last post..  ..that change leaves the users tmp directory untouched (no permissions issues)!   :D

I don't really know if it's a better option, as most of that perl script is gibberish to me; but, based on the bash scripting that followed it, I was guessing that it was just trying to detect the path of /tmp and make sure it could write to it..  probably some cross distro compatibility stuff that we don't really need..

Well, Tex found some issues with my src.rpm so maybe I will attempt that change Travis!  hehe, yeah, still learning the hard way I guess, but learning, and Tex is teaching me stuff.  Soon as I get my build environment back, I'll go back to fixing the issues with this, and hopefully it will hit the repos before long.
