Package / Packager Tracking
« on: March 23, 2009, 05:42:06 PM »
Please add your packages as they are submitted to contribs.

(1) create an account / log in at http://www.belrepository.com/doku/doku.php

(2) navigate to http://www.belrepository.com/doku/doku.php/packages , check to see if the package is already listed; if not add it using the form at the top of the page.

(4) document any additional pertinent information using standard wiki markup on the newly created page for that package.

(5) save your changes, and double check your new entry for errors (..maybe in a different order! :D )

Should we do this retrospectively for packages contributed in the past, or just for new packages from now on?

Actually, at this moment the AbiWord package is a bit better set up for how the wiki should be organized.

I would think that any packages you would like to take responsibility for maintaining should be added, including any past submissions that are in the repo's.

From what I understand, the purpose of this system was to have a centralized & organized place that people can look for information regarding the the status of packages & packagers..  If I decide I want to move on, the list of packages I was maintaining would be easily identified and hopefully assumed by the community.  By the same token, If I wanted to add, update, or make changes to a package it would also give me an opportunity to check if someone else might already be working on the project.  It could also possibly become a place that people could look for additional information regarding a package.

Now would probably be a good time to discuss a recommended best practices as to what information would be a good to include in each packages wiki page..  for example;
  • Would it be best practices to include the Change log from the spec on the wiki page?
  • Is there information other than what is listed above that should go into the package database, such as XDG category, etc?
  • Any thing else?

I have added a form that should simplify the addition of new package entries. Spec files and patches will still have to be entered manually. When you update a package you'll still have to edit the page manually.

And unless I've left any broken packages behind (still looking into lxsession), I think that should almost wrap up my business with PCLinuxOS.

Wasn't sure where to post this so I figured this would work......when I go to the website that travisn000 posted and try to register it says "Looks like there was an error on sending the password mail. Please contact the admin!"

I'm registered I just don't know what my password is.

I have changed the configuration so that the user creates a password when registering. I have also deleted your account so you may sign up again.

How do I find that form?

..if you have any difficulty getting an account set up, PM me, as I seem to have inherited the dubious honor of admin of that wiki!   ;D
