Updated addlocale language archives have been processed and uploaded to the server where they can now be picked up by addlocale. They include the language information of all PCLinuxOS repo packages - including the freshly added KDE 4.5.3, as well as latest translations from other Linux distros.
Note: if you already localized your system then you are set and don't need to run addlocale again.
have fun,

Hi,

I am in Openbox Bonsai Fr, ready to install it to a new partition, when I realize although it has been translated with the latest Addlocale, there are some contextual menus (not Openbox menus) that are all in English. What part of the system do theses menus belong to, and how could we get the locales for them ?

Here is a screenshot:

There are also a few menus in Lxpanel that are still in English, and for which I would also like to know how to fix it:

any English remnants are simply not yet translated yet. You would have to translate the respective text entries in the po-file of the given application, e.g. lxpanel, then update the rpm, and re-run addlocale. Lot's of work. Or ask people to learn English -> less work and better in the long-run...  ;)

Muhahahahahahaha !!! That would be so simple if just everybody wanted, and could learn English, wouldn't it ? ;D

Or better, if all would be willing to learn the most talked language in the world : Chinese language! That would be Mandarin. :)

Well back to the problem: I re ran Addlocale once the distro installed, and now there is "run" in lxpanel menu that became "Exécuter" so for this one it is ok.

For the right click menu on the desktop icons, that looks muuch! better as well. Only 2 parts are still in English. Do you have any idea what is the program which provides the right-click menu for desktop icons ?

They can, and they will be rewarded with speaking a decent language  ;D

To be more precise there are two ways for you to add translations:
add the translated text to the respective po-file and then convert the po-file to a mo-file (done automatically in po-edit), then

1) in your running, localized system:
- put the mo-file into /usr/share/locale/<language, in your case "fr">/LC_MESSAGES/

2) in general and for addlocale to pick up new translations:
- update the rpm with the updated mo-file
- once the updated rpm is in our repo then the updated translation is available for
  a) everyone: don't ask but instead patiently wait for Pinoc to rebuild and upload new language archives (every 1-2 months); after that run addlocale, or
  b) individuals: reinstall the updated rpm on your localized system (which is the same as 1 above)

Don't know about a general place for the right-click menu. In fact, what you are looking for is called Service Menus in KDE4, it's simply a .desktop file placed in /usr/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus/ so you may have a look there. I don't do Gnome, so no idea how this works there, I think in Gnome they are called Actions, maybe this or this helps.

Hi,

I don't do Gnome either. Openbox...

I found out : it belongs to PCManFM, but the trouble is that it is hard coded.

Hi guys,

new addlocale language archives have been processed and uploaded to the server where they can now be picked up by addlocale. They contain all language information of all PCLinuxOS repo packages - including the freshly added KDE 4.5.4, as well as latest translations from other Linux distros. In addition they were patched to include translations for digikam1.6 for Danish, Dutch, Russian. I will see how I can generalize this patch to provide even more translations in the next addlocale language archive update in January.  ;)
Note: if you already localized your system then you are set and don't need to run addlocale again, unless you have something not translated properly and hope for new translations in the new archives...

Hi pinoc,

Have you picked some desktop files from the recently translated ones ? Package Translations - http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/board,65.0.html

Hi Melodie,
no, they are not. Language archives are build from rpm-packages, and desktop files are integrated in rpm-packages => as long as the updated desktop files are not integrated in updated rpms they can not be picked up and integrated in the language archives. In fact, I only extract mo-files from rpm-packages for integration into the language archives. I will have to see if and how to also extract and include the desktop-files without having to reinstall the entire rpm. For now and to show new translations from updated desktop-files you would have to install or reinstall a given application (updated rpm-package containing the updated desktop-file).
best,
-p.

I thought so, but I also thought you might want to check the desktop files for addlocale and getopenoffice, for a next version.

Regards,
Mélodie

PS: for now I just put all the translated desktop files directly in a system, by hand. It's a long work to do, but the next Lxde Fr will therefore show more menus translated ! And I hope that in the future all our translation work will land in the rpm packages.
