Hi pinoc,
I would want to ask the french buddies their help to improve the translation of the Addlocale gui.
Could you make the po file available at package translations section ? Thanks. :)

Hi melodie,

cool, how about they check both, getopenoffice and addlocale po-file? Will send both of them next week when I'm back at work.
salut,

Sure, of course, I'll ask on the chans and we'll work together with several persons. If you put the files in a new post at translations section I'll be notified by mail.

Hi,

A French user tells me there are no translations to French for Pidgin : is that true ? In case of need, I got the sources of the latest Pidgin, and did a tarball with the po directory containing 32Mo of localizations, once uncompressed : pidgin-2.6.6-po.tar.bz2.

FWIW,

I changed locale to German and lost "Emulators" entry [Menu/More Applications...]. Restored the entry with Menu Editor. The only thing which is in the TZ is the Vbox icon :D.

Fully updated
KDE Development Platform: 4.4.2
addlocale-3.5-1pclos2010
Vbox: PUEL 3.1.6
PCLinuxOS e17 Club member/e17 video/Wifi problems?
those who complain rarely read. those who read rarely complain

Hi guys, i'll review the Serbian translation :)

Hi slax,

I put the content of Addlocale archive here in order to ask the french community to contribute, and left the whole archive available incase it can ease other people to take care of their native language translations:
http://melodie.tyruiop.org/DocuPCLinuxOS/addlocale/addlocale-3.5/

To do a po file from the mo file: Translation-relevant info/commands

Quote
Howto convert mo- <-> po-files
=========================
To convert a mo-file to an editable po-file use the command:
Code: [Select]
msgunfmt synaptic.mo -o synaptic.po
and to do the reverse, meaning converting a po-file to a mo-file use:
Code: [Select]
msgfmt synaptic.po -o synaptic.mo

I put a message at french forum to ask the users to contribute to Addlocale translation. I will ask them for Getopenoffice once Addlocale review will have been completed.

JFYI,
after adding German locale I got double folders:
Music / Musik
Pictures / Bilder

Is this a problem with AD or..? Keep up the great work, pinoc! :)

Hi coffeetime,
what you describe is perfectly fine and a new feature of KDE4: the user is offered the option to translate default folder names in $HOME to the new locale. In this process all existing files are copied to the new corresponding folder as well. Please check.
regards,
-p.

One doubt,
I want to use Tamil fonts to read and type only. and still use English as OS language.

Is it ok to just install locale-tamil in synaptic? I don't want the OS to change language. Thats all.

Thanks,
Tim

I don't know, try it out. Addlocale was designed to change the entire system language setup. A safe alternative in your case could be to install an additional OpenOffice localization because this only applies to OpenOffice, then switch the language in OO as you need it.

announcing addlocale 3.6 with these changes:
- fixed: incomplete archive download problem
- fixed: bug for some locales when executed on a Gnome install
- changed: make backup-files bleachbit resistant
- new: addlocale will detect if launched from inside Thailand and then use the Thai mirror instead of ibiblio
- new: added detailed info on how to configure a proxy server or a OpenDNS-setup if Internet connection problems are encountered
- updated:  serbian and portuguese translations

shipping to PASS shortly, then to public servers later on.

Err.. wait.
If i don't use addlocale program to download, and use synaptic to download the package, will it still change the whole system?
Anyway i will try and see.

Thanks!

Hi,

Two French speaking gentlemen in the forum French are complaining that Addlocale does not function for them, and stalls stating "some packages could not be retrieved etc... ". As I didn't have problems lately with changing to French in Pclinuxos Openbox, I thought I would start to do the same with KDE, but it failed. I first updated all, the new Addlocale 3.6 came in, I used it and all went well, reboot fine.

After a second reboot done a little later, I was surprised that the desktop welcomed me with a window offering to move all the home directories from French to English.

Everything is in English... menus all.

I found theses messages found in the 100/200 last lines of /var/log/messages:
http://www.pclinuxos.pastebin.com/fFiyChRv

What is going wrong ?
Thanks.

How come you don't have a /etc/sysconfig/i18n file? All of my installs have this file.

Thanks to everyone who donates. You keep the servers running.
