Localization Manager (addlocale)

I'm a franch user ; I tried to apply addlocale, it worked, and after a moment, nothing.
And my computer was always english.

And now, Icann't add locale :

Hi loren,

just ran addlocale this morning and everything worked perfectly fine so could it be that your system was not fully updated before running addlocale?
When you run addlocale now do you get the window where you can select a new locale? If yes, then keep the default setting English (US) and run addlocale to restore the default settings. Yet, from your output it seems that you do not get any addlocale information window anymore, is that true?

Could you please provide some more information:
- the first time you ran addlocale: do you remember the message of the last window before addlocale stopped? What exactly worked and what not?I'm almost certain that addlocale did not finish because of unmet dependencies in the system, which means your system was not fully updated before running addlcoale. 
- your system: what was the state of your system before you ran addlocale? Everything was working fine? Was it uptodate?
- Synaptic: which repo did you have configured in Synaptic? Did you use the 'testing' section?
- which version of PCLinuxOS did you install and which window manger did you use?

Either running addlocale and resetting to the default "en (US)" works, then update your system and run addlocale again. If this does not help, and because I will be out of town and without Internet access until next Monday, I would suggest to reinstall, then fully update, and only after a successful update run addlocale. In the latter case, a reinstall may be the fastest and easiest solution unless you can wait until next Monday.

I did that, and redo with "french" ... It runs ... thank you, Pinoc. My connexion is slow, but it's on 70%

addlocale is designed to work with a stable and fully updated system

Full updated OS has solved localization problem.

- some countries have several time-zones
- some people like to use a different localization than the one of the country they live in

Update on addlocale and only for those of you using the frozen repo of YouCanToo:

Please start Synaptic, press Reload, and you should now find an updated version of addlocale (3.3-3). Please use this updated version to add a new locale to your system.

Note on addlocale 3.3:
- is a customised version of addlocale which will only work with the frozen repo of YouCanToo, it does not work with any other repo!
- is the last version of addlocale which supports KDE3
- supports all window managers available in YouCanToo's frozen repo: KDE3/KDE4, Gnome, etc
- new feature only available when using KDE4: customise local settings upon first login after changing localisation of the system
- will use specific 'frozen' language archives now stored on YouCanToo's repo. This will ensure the functionality of addlocale and YouCanToo's frozen repo even after the upcoming release of 2010. When 2010 is out we will have a new addlocale 3.4 (without KDE3 support), working only with the new 2010 repo, and having different language archives.
- users wanting to stick with KDE3, and hence using YouCanToo's frozen repo, can now use addlocale as well as getopenoffice (both did not work before on YouCanToo's repo)
- a big THANK YOU to YouCanToo for making the necessary changes on the server!

Important note for users running the e17 (Enlightenment) window manager:
after running addlocale the e17 user will have to manually set the locale to use either by
1) StartMenu -> Settings -> Settings Panel: top panel go to the right and select 'Language', then 'Language Settings', choose the language to use, press 'Apply', then 'Close' and again 'Close'; then logout/login  
2) in e17, open a terminal and enter:

enlightenment_remote -lang-set de here 'de' is for German, other applicable language codes in e17 can be found using:

enlightenment_remote -lang-list and of course the new language must already be installed with addlocale; then logout/login


Important note for users wanting to stay with a pre-2010 release and KDE3 and using addlocale:
Your installation must only have packages from the frozen repo of YouCanToo and you must use the addlocale in YouCanToo's repo (version 3.3-3, see previous post) to add a localisation.

- removed remaining traces of KDE3 support
- fixed incomplete KDE localization when running gdm
- e17 localization switch and other info now in user's HOME instead of Desktop
- updated to work with any combination of PCLinuxOS available desktops (KDE4, LXDE, E17, Gnome & ZenMini, XFCE, OpenBox, Fluxbox, etc.)
- updated all 13 addlocale translations for the window information messages

what is not working?? For which language?? The ibiblio folder you mentioned is not empty but on purpose set to be not visible, as are all other sections. The current addlocale version works fine for most languages only those requiring cyrillic fonts don't work. 3.5 is in the works and will go out when the necessary changes in the repo have been applied.

Während der Lokalisation hatten wir einen Stromausfall. Danach kam ich bis zur Auswahl der Sprache und dann gab es eine Fehlermeldung, das eine Datei nicht komplett runter geladen werden konnte, ich es später noch einmal versuchen solle und addlocale wurde beendet. Im Script habe ich solch eine Meldung nicht gefunden (was aber nicht heißen muss, das es diese nicht gibt).
Dadurch bin ich auf den "leeren" Link gestoßen.
Ich habe es nun noch einmal probiert und es lief durch.
Also mal wieder viel Wind um nichts.

During the localization, we had a power outage. Then I got to the choice of language, and then there was an error that a file could not be loaded completely down, I would later try again and addlocale was terminated. Please try running addlocale again a little later and we will continue from whatever could be downloaded.

- fixed: languages requiring cyrillic fonts (16 languages: Russian, Serbian, etc)
- fixed: Serbian now fully translated (well, more than before and as much as possible  )
- added: droid-fonts for better display of languages requiring cyrillic fonts
- added: new Firefox translations for 8 languages
- added: better support for some Indian languages
- changed: on a KDE4 installed system (not in a live session) addlocale will now reboot instead of logout. This change was needed to properly apply some Indian languages
- temporarily disabled Maithili support until we get locales for this language.

New language archives are now available to be picked up by addlocale. They contain all language info available in the repo as of March 31, specifically updated translations from KDE4.4.2, and - due to a new trick  - are now on average 20% larger than before, meaning some more stuff should appear localized.  Please let me know if you find any regression with respect to previous addlocale runs. The next update on language archives will be processed and uploaded when 2010 final is out,
