64 bit

Device Notifier has gone a little crazy.

I have two instances of DN running ......  one on the Desktop from where I can select to mount/unmount partitions, and the other in the tray, which reacts to a plugged in block device.

They have worked independently .....  on both 64 bit and 32 bit.

After the update (and reboot) today, whenever my mouse passes over the one on the desktop, it immediately reacts by expanding the entry it touched, and at the same time the DN in the tray pops up also.

If I use the mouse on either of the DN instances, and scroll down the entries, the other DN display follows exactly.

It is as if there is now only one DN, which is displayed in two locations!

Not good .......   :(

I tested this with three instances of DN, and they all mirrored the one I moused over.

BTW, forgot to say that the ability to move the widget on the desktop has apparently disappeared too.  Onece place it cannot be mouse-grabbed and moved.

(I know I was aware of something else to report but these popups have driven it from my mind  :(  )

I had some issues with kmail and korganizer.

After I recreated my user profile from scratch and set everything up, all worked as expected (or better).

It seems that due to the upgrade (and KDE's bug-fixing in 4.10) the configuration in the .kde4 folder gets mixed up in parts.

I upgraded two installations yesterday: my laptop with 64bit RC1 and my kids desktop running standard KDE 32bit.
No issues on either two machines.

Thanks to all who worked for this update!

I spoke too early...  :(

After the second batch of upgrade (to fix the KDE games, among other things) I had a KDE crash.  First I substituted the bugged .kde4 directory with a backup one, taken before the KDE upgrade, but it still gave a crash. So I had to re-create the .kde4 directory (I moved the old one, that gave a crash, restarted X), and I was able to enter a session. I reconfigured the workspace and now everything is almost working...

Indeed, now I am not able to create anything on the desktop (if I right click on it it only shows the panel menus; the "Create", "Icons", "Update desktop" items are all missing).  All the former icons present in the desktop are in the Desktop folder in my $HOME... (well, actually because I have localized my computer, it is in the "Scrivania" - italian for Desktop - folder. This path is correctly shown in "Configure your desktop")

Any clues on how I can put objects on the desktop?

Ciao, Mauro

It seems that due to the upgrade (and KDE's bug-fixing in 4.10) the configuration in the .kde4 folder gets mixed up in parts.

I noticed that, too. Some of the widgets got set back (e.g. the virtual desktop switcher).

However, the system works flawlessly, only having trouble with desktop effects - again... (see above)

That has to do with the OpenL composting driver not being updated, correct?  I lost my desktop effects, as well, when I updated.  but, everythng else (knock wood) runs fine.  I can do without wobbly windows for a few days.:)

If Desktop Effects are being temperamental sometimes the following can bring them back

Config Your Desktop > Workspace Appearance and Behavior > Desktop Effects -Advanced Tab)

Set the Composting Type to  Xrender

and the QT Graphic System to Native

Press Apply

If that doesn't work try setting the Composting Type to OpenGL  and Press Apply

If they don't work try other combinations

OpenGL/Raster
XRender/Native
XRender/Raster

Additionally if kcm-qt-graphicssystem is installed it may be worth changing settings in

Config Your Desktop > System Administration > QT Graphics System

Hi!

I'll post here too my issue.

It's a foolish thing, but I don't know how to handle it since I don't know how to work in text mode... Huh
So, please don't laugh!...

Upgraded to KDE 4.10, typed in terminal init 6 to reboot.
After reboot it went in text mode

PCLinuxOS release...
Kernel.....
localhost login:_

What should I type there??? Huh
Mmmghhhh!!!...

The same thing in my 32 bit install after upgrading to (testing) kernel 3.4.

I tried root->password
(root@localhost ^)#_startx

Is shows a large list ended with
xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
xinit: server error

I need a hand, please...
Thanks.

Nope... it brings up the desktop configuration (that is, the very last voice of the right click menu)

That's precisely what 7272andy meant. Configuration=Settings.

And there your very first choice is a choice of layout. What you want appears to be a "Folder view" layout, the third from the top on the popup list.
