Look forward to the new version when its released from testing.

Kipi plugins work on my laptop, with integrated Intel graphics chipset. However some
kipi plugins fail to work on my desktop with ATI catalyst driver.

I applied the KDE 4.10.1 update this morning (I use the PASS repo), and everything went smoothly. I haven't noticed any major glitches so far.

A big "Thank you!" to everyone who helped make this possible.  :)

The only minor thing I've found is that the LCD Weather Station plasmoid seems to have "supersized" itself. Even adjusting it to its smallest size, it appears to be about 50% larger than it was before. The other desktop widgets I use retained their previous size, as best I can tell:

Not a big deal at all ... but if anyone knows a trick for shrinking this widget, I'd appreciate it.

(The wallpaper is Linuzoid's nifty PengAir design:  http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,112015.0.html ).

For Kwin desktop effects I had to fall back to Xrender on my Acer Aspire 5610 (Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller) with the Intel 810 or later driver.
Seems KDE4.10.1 needs updated OpenGL software (Mesa/Xorg) for this video chipset.

Tested on a another box (Old P4 2.8 HT) with a Nvidia Geforce GTS 6600 videocard.
Have no problems with OpenGL with the Nvidia 304.xx drivers.
Kwin desktop effects are fully supported.

Try to do following in konsole:

kwin_gels --replace and check if you can turn on opengl effects.

[wim@localhost ~]$ kwin_gles
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
KWin: de managerselectie kon niet worden opgeëist. Draait er reeds een andere window manager? (probeer --replace te gebruiken).

Google translate:
[wim @ localhost ~] $ kwin_gles
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
KWin: the manager selection could not be claimed. Already running another window manager? (try to use --replace).

kwin_gles --replace  crashes Kwin  (no win decoration) and have to login/logout with contr-alt-bspace.

oh what a shame, but It's strange. Intel should provide egl, at least it works for my netbook.

BTW: This way you can get compositing even with radeon open driver.

PS
Can you tell us if you have direct rendering?

glxinfo | grep direct

menotu,

Thank you for the suggestion. I followed your tip, but the weather widget is still significantly larger than before the update.

(Note: When the update first completed, Synaptic had a message prompting me to open a Konsole terminal as root user, and type the command "init 6". I followed this instruction exactly, and it did a complete reboot of my PC).

As I mentioned before, this is a minor annoyance. And if I decide to remove the widget, I can still easily get current weather information from the Forecastfox add-on I've installed in Firefox . . .

Thanks again for trying to lend a hand.
