SMPlayer issue [Solved]
« on: March 16, 2013, 05:25:01 AM »
It used to be when you clicked on a file in Dolphin and existing running video would quit and the next file would play. For a while now you have to actually quit the first video manually, otherwise it just sits there and looks at you.

Is there an option I'm missing to change this behaviour?

Look for an option that allows only one instance of SMPlayer at the time (was something like that in VLC)

Options -> Preferences -> Interface -> Instances -> Use only one running instance of SMPlayer

Better, but what I was aiming for dumping first video and starting up the next one in its place. So I just want one instance. Right now the second video gets added to a playlist so the first has to finish before the second is played.

SMPlayer used to behave like that, for me anyway.

Right click on the file and choose properties. Then click on "File type options" (wrench icon) and when 2nd window pops up check if SMPlayer is on the top of the food chain in the "Application preferences order" box. If it's not (and I suspect that Enqueue in SMPlayer is first) find the entry for the SMPlayer and click on it. Then keep clicking on "Move up" button on the right hand side till SMPlayer is on top of the list. Then click OK and OK again to close both of the properties windows.

Try clicking on the chosen file now.

Regards.

Andrzej

It's not a matter of SMPlayer not being recruited to play a file type.

Imagine this. You are playing a video in SMPlayer and you decide it's boring. You click on another file ( in Dolphin) and instead of it replacing the original it gets added to the playlist. I never want playlists for video though of course I could see the application for music files.

So currently I have to close the current video before clicking on a new one.

It's a small thing but considering how much video I watch it's a quirk that I see every day or so and it's a quirk that didn't used to be there.

Did you check the Enqueue as Andrzej suggested?

It is behaving as if the Enqueue option is the default as he said.

Sorry guys, that worked. I just couldn't see why the OS/KDE had anything to do SMPlayer's playlist-like behaviours so I was fixated at looking thru SMPlayer's options. Still seems weird to me.

Glad You're solved.

To answer Your follow-up question / concerns:

Yes it's weird. It was wrecking my head a while back so... To answer Your question... It has (may have) probably to do with SMPlayer option ALTHO I never pursued or tested it.

Options > Preferences

Playlist in the left pane. Playlist tab. Automatically add files to playlist checkbox.

If it's checked it MAY be the cause of moving "Enqueue in Smplayer" option to the top of Your "Default apps" list...

Regards.
