OK.

Not too specific.  There's quite a bit pre-installed (assuming the full KDE release), and nothing yet indicates what might be missing for functionality.

What type of remote access?  File access?  Remote desktop access? Remote console access?  All of these can be achieved out of the box (although depending on how you want to do remote file access, there may be some configuration required)...

What type of media files?  Audio?  Video?  Pictures?  Text?
Accessing media "transparently" across the network?  Across a file share?  Via a remote desktop?

 ;)

Personally, on my "main" desktop, I've setup a SAMBA share (not because it is superior, but because it is more ubiquitous) through which I can access files.
Remote server access I do through SSH (I don't need full remote desktop for my Linux machines, and SSH allows graphic apps to run remotely).
Wireless laptops and desktops can access this "main" PC, allowing me to access files...I can also move files through SCP (file copy over SSH) to/from any machine, if I want local copies and/or backups.
I have XBMC on a dedicated computer connected to a TV, through which I can access (mainly) movies.  XBMC will also handle music and pictures.
I have another, recent castoff PC with a Hauppauge TV card (can't quite get it working in Linux, yet  >:( ) running XP and NextPVR I use to record (replaces my VHS  :o ), and then a script on my "main" PC runs "RSYNC" to copy the files there, where XBMC can see them...

What else?
I'm heavily into photography and graphic art, so I often try many photo and graphics related software (main gotos are digiKam, Gimp, MyPaint...playing with Krita)
I added VirtualBox for personal and work (run XP, Windows 7, other Linux distros and addtional copies of PCLOS concurrently with main PCLOS) use...

Bit of a headache, at the moment...can't think of anything else (although I have lot's of stuff installed...easy to remove if I don't want it anymore)...
