floating mouse
« on: March 12, 2013, 10:56:20 AM »

"It is the kind of trick performed by illusionists who want to make you believe something is floating mid-air.

But this new gadget will soon let people perform similar stunts in the office or at home - and there is no magic involved.

Prague-based design studio, Kibardindesign, have created a levitating wireless computer mouse known as Bat."

"The sleek design includes a mouse pad and mouse with a magnetic ring, which allows it to float in mid-air.

It levitates at a height of 40mm on its own or 10mm beneath the weight of your hand.

Other than looking futuristic, Bat can also stop nerve damage and dysfunction in people's hands."

it won't be a problem for hard disks or usb external hard disks

maybe for crt monitors, could cause purple or green spots but the magnet itself can fix them again

a floppy possibly will end wiped, but since floppy discs should never existed and are a thing of the past, well, not much worries there

if you still use minidv cassete, that could be a problem

Shows how old I am.

I used to work in a room FULL of these damn things.

Mounting tapes all day long. Every one had a number from 1 to 18,000 and I had to know where everyone of them lived.

(Of course they were in numerical order so it wasn't that difficult to figure out)

Programs ran that would require data off of one and it would "request" the data be mounted on a specific drive. I had to supply that program with the tape it was looking for.

On occasion a program would have to "Write" data onto a blank (scratch tape).

We used a hand held electromagnet to "Scratch" a tape.

We wiped it all over the side of the reel to destroy all the data making it a "scratch".  :D :D

It worked.     ;D

The good old 2401 - when it required skill to mount a tape - especially to do it quickly. I wonder if I could still do it?

My first thought about a mouse in mid-air. "What's the mouse pad for?"

The mouse pad is either to generate the emf to float the mouse, or to distract the snake from below

"My first thought about a mouse in mid-air. "What's the mouse pad for?""

it seems that it has more magnets, also it has a antenna receiving the signal from the mouse, in the image you see a cable coming out of the pad
