Clementine - Locks up 99% of the time when fast forwarding

I tried an .ogg file, worked flawlessly. I did download gstreamer-ugly in the konsole, the way they had it listed.

No, sadly, that's the latest available ugly plugin for gstreamer. Could you open Synaptic and check what you have installed vis a vis gstreamer?. I don't have the same problem that you have nor to the same extent (my problem is flac files when more than usual fast forward is used and Clementine is pretty well behaved), so it looks like something is broken or missing on your system.

Is this what you have installed? Incidentally if you are purely using mp3s then packages such as wavpack, faad and flac wouldn't be needed.

Looking at it from a different angle, are all the mp3 files a particular bitrate? Does Clementine lock up with both 128k and 320k files, for example?

Hmm... possibly, but then if it's codecs why has nobody else had this specific problem?

You said you'd checked file permissions. Are the file permissions the same on the mp3s as the ogg file you downloaded? On that subject, what happens if you open Clementine as root and play a mp3?

GStreamer requires glib. Are these packages installed?

Is it possible you have missed an update at some point? Try a complete reinstall of the clementine and gstreamer packages. Open Synaptic, reload the package information and check all the affected packages for reinstall. Couldn't hurt to also reinstall the glib packages listed above. Reboot afterwards and retry.

If none of this works, then I would suggest trying Amarok or menotu's suggestion of VLC. There are also other solutions in the repository. That should at least allow you to play the files until a fix comes along. It would be interesting if you did try Amarok as it now uses gstreamer as the backend instead of Xine, so if Amarok didn't work then at least it isolates the problem to gstreamer or associated libraries. I still can't see why the problem is specific to your system though.

The file permission I believe is 777 (can write and modify). I used "Soundkonverter" to change bit rate in the MP3, or even converting to ogg. Seems as though the MP3 just doesn't want to work.
In root, this is what I got: (note: PCLinuxOS said I have exceeded the maximum allowed length, 20,000 characters. so a lot of the messages in the terminal that are basically duplicate, have been removed)

I applied all during the update, and everything got installed. I can reload them all and see again if it works. Unlikely however.

I thought it was just my old laptop, being it was glitchy, had issues, etc.. and when I bought my desktop, I'd figured clementine would work, amongst other things. I guess not.

Does seem to be a gstreamer issue then. I don't think anything will be served by another reinstall. Sorry I can't think of anything else, there's probably something dead obvious but I can't see it. One last thought - do the mp3s have the title and artist id3 tags filled in? Scrobbling requires those fields. You can use a prog like Kid3 (in the repo) to write specific tags in id3.1 and 3.2. If you copy one file to somewhere away from your library you can fill in any missing tags with Kid3 then try playing it.

Other than that, on my machine this is generally the point where I look for another program...

I use easytag, and the title, artist, track number, album, and picture are filled in, and the genre.

I guess it's VLC. It's okay. it works.
It's why I like Linux, one program doesn't work, try again, and without the use of a credit card to later find out, it isn't what you want afterall.
