Apologies if I am repeating a previous thread . . .
I would like to install an old Samsung printer ML-1210 (on lxde).
Am I correct in thinking that, because it's an old printer, the only available driver would be a download from Samsung website?
If so,
There are 2 options on Samsung website which I have copied & pasted here (both are for linux os):
i386 Driver (Driver) (ver.V1.1.7-27)

<Install Method>
1) Login as root
2) Download and Extract the driver. # tar xzf DownloadedFileName
( .....tar.gz)
3) Execute Installation Program. # ./image/setup.sh4) Proceed Installation and click ''Start'' to add a printer.
   Linux    Apr 22, 2005    MULTI LANGUAGE      8.5

the other option is:
PPC Driver (Driver) (ver.V1.1.7-27)

<Install Method>
1) Login as root
2) Download and Extract the driver. # tar xzf DownloadedFileName ( .....tar.gz)
3) Execute Installation Program. # ./image/setup.sh4) Proceed Installation and click ''Start'' to add a printer.
   Linux    Apr 22, 2005    MULTI LANGUAGE      8.79

If the driver is not available from synaptic, would you recommend I install one of these drivers? If so, which one?
Is somebody willing to guide me through the install procedure because I don't fully understand Samsung's install instructions shown above.

Sorry, but I am still learning . . .
Thank you for any help you can offer.

the file you got, it is the hardest to install it

it is easier to install a rpm if the driver is not in synaptic

i think it is because that printer is quite old

anyway i recommend you to find the driver in rpm version

once you find it, open a console on the same folder you have the rpm file and write: rpm -i theexactnameofthefile.rpm

then press enter and it will install it and if something else is required, it will tell you what it is

after that you can configure your printer as any other from configure your computer

i think that first, you should see if under configure your computer/hardware/printers it is listed and can be added without using those files you mentioned

Thanks for your advice.
The printer is listed in 'computer/hardware/printers' but, when attempting to print, it is unable to do so.
Sadly, I don't know where to look to find this rpm:
anyway i recommend you to find the driver in rpm version
I'm still learning . . .
Your help would be much appreciated.

before searching for such rpm driver, try to install it without adding any driver and see if system takes the printer, from what i have searched, the printer should work if your system is updated and you have task-printer installed

Thanks T6.
I took your advice & printer is responding. Don't know why it was a problem before. I altered some of the settings etc today, but don't know what I altered!  Thanks for your help - much appreciated. I'll now mark this 'Solved'
