ATI HD 6650 Mobility graphics support
« on: March 09, 2013, 03:33:46 AM »
Hi all!

I made several installs - RC1 and all 32 bits ISOs I have (2012.2, 2012.8, 2012.12, 2013.2 - full and MiniMe).
None of them are working properly.
Don't know what to do... ???
Maybe can I find something in the testing repo?
If so, how can it be activated?
Someone can help me, please?...
Many thanks.

Paul.

That statement is about totally worthless if you are looking for help. We need to know exactly what it is that isn't working.

O-P
Look at my previous post about HP Pavilion.
Yes, is about the same issue, and I beg your(s) pardon...
No idea what to do!...
It may be a hardware problem? I don't think so...
And I don't want another OS in my machine. And less a *buntu or another "sudo" based OS!
 ;D ;D ;D

I'll provide all specs of my machine in order to find help; just tell me what command should I employ for this task.

This damned HP!...  >:( >:( >:(
It's nice, but I regret I bought it. And not only for this issue...

When you boot your LiveCD there are the options, i believe it's with F6, where you can also put extra's on the startup line. The most horrible thing on the moment on laptop are the hybrid video chips. Sometimes you get a workable solution with adding vesa or nomodeset at startup.
Another possibillity is connecting an extra external monitor during install.
Cannot give you any 100% solution.

...But <i'm not in in live mode. The syatem is already installed. Ok. neither in live mode the system works well.
So, what have in common an already installed system with the live mode? Please don't laugh!... :)

Yeah... As i read the specs of this processor, it have an integrated Intel graphics. Well,  as my knowledge is very limited, I don't understand how is it working: two graphics?!... And why two? :(

How does affect a monitor an installation? As I understand, a monitor only displays what occure in the system.

Sometimes the installs are displaying non or just a part from the screen, even switching the laptops backlight off. With an external monitor the screen is correct.
After the install you can try to correct the displaysettings for the laptop screen.

It is not my case.
Though, by default, the resolution of my machine is not detected and set correctly.
Let me explain...
Booting in live mode, the resolution is 1024x768 (3/4), not as 1600x900. Ok, it can be changed (but it is not automaticaly detected).
Now, if I prform the installation being in live mode whith the correct resolution setting, after the installation I am in a correct 1600x900.
If performing a direct install, after that I'm in a 1024x768 res.
Interesting is that going to Sysstem Conf->Display and Monitor->Size and OrientationCRT 1 Size, the next option is the correct and marked as Automatic; nevertheless, the system is not set as.
Ok, this is not really a big problem.
The real problem is not be able to configure the graphics, and if accessing ATI Catalyst CC, it pops up a window saying it is no ATI driver installed.
Over all, I like KDE precisely for its high configuration (in fact, due to mi eyes problems, I need it) and also for the effects.

I think it is missing driver support for my videocard in this ISO since performing a live session in Mageia 2 and Sabayon 11 there were no problems with the graphics.
Now, I don't want to hear/read: "Then install them"... ;D  ;D  ;D
I want resolve this issue here and running this distro.

I don't understand the part above, highlighted in blue. Can you post a screen shot of what you refer to? I get all sorts of choices for choosing my monitor, either by specific vendor model, or by generic screen size and refresh rate. Same thing when choosing the resolution I want when configuring the graphic card.

Perhaps you are using the wrong tools to set up your display?

You might want to try clicking this icon;

...then, after giving the root password, Hardware --> Configure Video Card as shown below;

...which gets you this screen with drop down menus for each category.

Choose your Monitor first, then the Graphic Card, then finally, the Resolution, to match the monitor native resolution.

This it the resolution I have after a booting in live mode or if perform a direct install (not from the live mode with the res seted at 1600x900)

If in System Settings->Display and Monitor->Size & Orientation am Clicking In The size options - as you see it's a 1024x768 res. - it popsúp the following:
Disabled
1600x900 (Auto)
1024x768
800x600
...and so on...
(Sorry, but when these options poped-up is not possible to take a screenshot...)
As I said, it's not a big deal; it can fixed. It' just the resolution is not upset automaticaly)
The same thing in PCC.

And as I said in my last reply, it would help if you used the right tool for the job.

Yes O-P, I know. :)
But not this is the problem. The resolution is fixed.

Why I opened this topic is graphic effects are not working.
Also I found that the sound is weak, at 100% the level is only at about 50%.
