samsung blames windows 8 for declining pc market
« on: March 08, 2013, 07:14:09 PM »
"On Friday Jun Dong-soo, president of Samsung’s memory chip division, told reporters at the COEX InterContinental Hotel in Seoul that Windows 8 has failed to bolster demand for PCs, and that the industry will likely not rebound any time soon. Even more, he said that Microsoft's new Windows overhaul is really no better than Windows Vista based on current market performance.

"The global PC industry is steadily shrinking despite the launch of Windows 8," he told reporters. "I think the Windows 8 system is no better than the previous Windows Vista platform."

He goes even further to say that there will be no expected boost to PC sales thanks to Windows 8's failure, and that the PC industry itself will gradually be phased out. Naturally, this comment stems from a company that seemingly makes the bulk of its revenue from Android-laced smartphones and tablets. Still, the comments hurt."

If that's the case then MS will gradually shrink back to its bastions of Office and XBox.

Android will become more predominant, and Google will become even more in your face. In the words of the song, meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Oh, and there will be the irony of Ballmer's outburst "I'll ******* bury Google"; if things are as bad as Samsung portray then Google, or at least the Microsoft board, will shortly bury Ballmer. I imagine when they take the box round for his leaving collection there'll be a lot of people sticking washers in there instead of coins.

xbox is not a bastion, from some numbers and reports i have read in the last months, it is a enormous money blackhole

they are trying to convert it to a multimedia delivery platform, like they are trying to do now with some games xtra content, music and shows but is not working for them as expected, barely surviving i would say

if the new console suffers something similar to the original problems happened to the old xbox(units burning themselves) or the 360(units overheating, red ring of death) that created money lose in the order of billions of dollars, they will sell or kill xbox division

office is their last shot and google will keep improving their free online version while microsoft online version tries to offer something that people could consider to use

their server products, well, it couldn't have failed worse than they did against linux servers, it is terrifying!

microsoft couldn't be on a worse situation!  or could be?

Samsung may have a point as to where the future of PC's is.

I spend over half of my "electronic" time on my smartphone and tablet.  The other 40% of my time is on the laptop and tower.

A tablet is just more convenient to take along, verses a laptop.
One of the few things I've learnt as growing older.  Is to choose your battles.. but never loose sight of the war..!

I don't need anything to take along because I never go anywhere, except to work.
