Devra,

You don't. EXE files are a Windows/DOS exclusive. The rule around here is to NOT install from outside the official repository. Before doing anything else, you need to launch Synaptic (the PCLinuxOS package manager), click on Reload, then Mark All Updates, then Apply, then Apply in the dialog that opens. Once your system is fully up to date, then click on the Search button and enter 7zip. You will have some choices to make as to which program you want to install. Of course, every version of PCLinuxOS comes with an archive manager pre-installed to handle virtually all of your archive file management needs.

Hope this helps!

You do realize that, regardless of personal feelings of animosity towards Microsoft, installing an unpaid for, unlicensed copy of any version of Windows is illegal in just about every jurisdiction on the planet?

Not trying to be a ****, just wouldn't want this forum and distribution to be liable in anyway.

Once you have a licensed copy (presumably on optical media), it can be installed the same way as PCLinuxOS (although you may lose access to PCLOS until you redo the MBR) for a dual-boot, or, I would recommend researching VirtualBox (available from Synaptic), and look into installing it virtually so it can be run concurrently with your PCLOS install.

I have to admit, this makes me wonder about the vista that was on my old desktop, I wasn't given a cd copy of the program and I did buy the rights...i wonder how I could go about getting MY copy to use..hope that makes sense.

7-Zip is a free compression and archiving program for Windows. There are several, equally free, compression and archiving programs in our repository that can handle 7-Zip-compressed archives - among them p7zip, a port of 7za.exe. (See Parnote's post.)

Turbolister
You need the package
jaolt
installable from Synaptic
Description how to create your turbolister with E-bay: here
From the line "Then it seems to work, but it DOES NOT." you should follow the instructions.
p7zip and Q7Z are suitable compression programs in Synaptic, also a nice one is peazip.

He made another post here about the same file.  It seems, according to this post, that it is a copy of Windows 7 in a 7zip self-extracting archive.

If you can borrow a Vista CD/DVD then you can use that along with the Product Key which should be on a tag on the PC case, to install Vista .....  without further cost.

ok, thanks I'll try that but first can I ask what the official repository is,

All the servers listed in an up-to-date /etc/apt/sources.list are mirrors of the official repository (except the "megagames" entry). Don't activate more than one of them in Synaptic: they are updated at different intervals.

and is there a version of windows I can get from it...

That would be the day ... No, there isn't. (You can install free versions of DOS, but not anything newer.)

But some Windows programs can be run with Wine, and of course you can run an official version of Windows in a virtual machine under Linux.

I looked at jaolt and i'd have to start over with my listings, I have over 1400, so i'll try to snag a copy of xp (looked at top of old computer) and just run it in a partition....no learning curver except for the part about switching between os's....

I'm starting to think i'm too old to learn all this...
but then, i've been wrong once before...
