Alvin Lee Dies at 68
« on: March 07, 2013, 08:41:17 AM »
My guitar hero has died. I am crushed and it almost brought me to tears. His music with Ten Years After was something that made me wide eyed with admiration for the talent he had.
Many times I listened to him for hours on end. I could say a lot more but I will just leave it as I am very sad and I am very sorry for his family.

R.I.P. my friend.

I have been playing electric guitar for 40 years.

Alvin Lee was one of the handful of greats who heavily influenced my style during the 70s.

I appreciated how his style changed and grew over the years. Some of my other blues/rock guitarist heroes have followed a similar path. So have I :)

He and his music will be missed!

And how!

I started playing guitar when I was 9, and it didn't take long for me to take notice of Alvin. I always loved the music of Ten Years After and admired how he became part of a generation decidedly shaping the world of popular music.

Would this not be true today.

I'd Love to Change the World

My reactions to Alvin Lee's death are about the same as yours Joechimp... lost a friend. I'd just watched Woodstock again a few nights before his passing. The monumental "I'd Love to Change the World" tune and the Album have to be my most played recordings ever... over anything! Ten Years After's  "Crickelwood Green", the "Live" ones,  and his and Mylon Lefevre's "On the Road to Freedom" are some of his excellent recordings. I'm still fortunate just to have most of his classic recordings on original vinyl to cherish over time while I lament his passing... on my own .. road to freedom.

My condolences to his family, friends, fans and Joechimp.

Thanks a lot Zane. I like what you had to say.

One of my favorite albums was Ssssh which include my favorite Good Morning Little Schoolgirl.

The intro to Bad Scene and the following unbelievable guitar solo's is right up there for me.

I Woke up this morning......just all great stuff.
My condolences to you as well Zane.

You know, I was so looking forward to seeing him play again this summer.
I am fortunate that in my lifetime I was able to see him play live more times than I can count.
