the trick would be to get another connector for the old hdd, there are plenty of extra thingies hanging around in there, but nothing that looks like the connectors I've got on the new hdd...thingies...technical word in case you're wondering.

Your best bet may be a USB adapter - they're not that expensive, and some will attach to both IDE and SATA drives (I  have one of those, cost me about $15, IIRC).

Plug the bare drive into it, plug the other end into a USB port on your computer.  PCLOS should recognize it as an external drive.

Great idea The Chief .

So many handy plugins becoming availabe, that looks just the shot, and the price you can't argue about at all.

I bought a very similar USB Adapter, 4 Input ports, exterally powered, (AC Adaptor).

Looks almost exactly the same, except for the four USB drive Inputs.

i'll have to look at it again, i didn't realize i could plug a usb directly onto the hard drive...

Or you can plug the hard drive into one of these, which is basically the same thing, but with added features.
