Hello all, I did a update on 04 Mar 2013 and then did a reboot and was brought to a command prompt,  I tried startx without any luck. I then tried XFdrake and changed my video to Xorg radeon and then rebooted and was able to get video but the video is not correct. When I scroll in a web page the response is real slow, and on booting the splash screen is flickering. Before the update video was fine. Does anyone know the correct drivers for my video card? I also tried ATI Radeon 2000 and later but it would not work.

Here is the synaptic updates from PASS

I believe HD4xxx series has been moved to legacy support by AMD. So we may have to go for the legacy driver.

I am not sure which driver release stops supporting this video card. As I have not updated my desktop this week I am yet to find out.

Or is there some other reason for your problems?
Packaging well will cure headaches of many :) But learning to package will cause headaches in many :(

(I see now that one of my posts about this issue has been moved so the link is not valid anymore).

I just realized there is a new legacy driver available on PASS: x11-driver-video-fglrx-legacy-8.097.100.7-1pclos2013.i586.rpm

I'm currently using the 64bit version and I didn't know that this driver had appeared (until now).
I think I should try it out on my 32bit test install when I get back home and have access to my laptop (ATI Mobility Radeon HD4650).

You should try installing that for your card, challenger50

EDIT: I'm pretty sure that, since the legacy driver appeared on PASS, there will be an official announcement soon...

The legacy driver is of no use without the required changes to ldetect-lst and the drakxtools to configure it.

I see.
Now that I think of it I realize it... How would you select the correct driver from PCC if it was installed but not listed?
I'm so stupid some times  :-[

So the solution for the OP would be to switch to a public mirror and reinstall version 8.961 of fglrx, right?
And be careful not to update again if the newer version of fglrx appears on public mirrors too...
At least for now.

That should work (but I haven't looked at fglrx in great detail)

I had to uninstall the newer versions of dkms-fglrx and x11-driver-video-fglrx and then reinstall the old versions from the public repo and then reboot, I also had to go to PCC and set the video driver again to ATI Radeon 2000 and later. I will also have to pin those older versions in synaptic, here is the link from Texstar if you need to pin a older version http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,59692.0.html.

Thank you for your help everyone.
