Operating System is Detecting My Sound Output Incorrectly

Here I am again. LOL. Since I had NO success with my ATi HD 7770, I thought I would try my emergency GeForce GT 440 Video Card. I'm happy to report I'm gaining ground. LOL. Now, My Card is recognized. However, still NO SOUND. The problem is the same as I encountered in several other Distro's. BTW, I went into "testing" and installed the latest 310.19 Driver. It's working Gr8 in my system. The problem is the system is set to be looking for a S/PDIF connection only.It's bypassing a Direct HDMI 1.4a Cable to HDTV HDMI Port. Also, I tried Pulse Audio as well. It crashes as it did with my ATi HD 7770 Card.

Also, when I open KMix, it is displaying a totally disorganized chronological order for the HDMI Ports. I believe it went like: 4-3-0-1-2 which is really not a serious problem. However, I think it might be best to have the order: 0-4. In the Nvidia Control Panel my HDTV is being recognized as Display #2. It is my ONLY Display. I use my HDTV as my Monitor & TV. Anyway, I think this is a problem that one of the Dev's has to fix. The Display being detected as #2 may be because I have only Two HDMI Ports. However, the port I'm connected to is classified as Port one in my HDTV settings. My second port is listed as: Side Port.

As I stated in my previous post, all of the 4-5 other Linux Distro's that I tried, had to resort to Pulse audio to make the sound work. FYI, PC-BSD had it working for both ALSA & OSS. I realize PC-BSD is UNIX and a different animal.
In summation, if one of you experienced, handsome, knowledgeable Dev's could fix this it would be MOST appreciated. I probably could get sound if I connected VGA. However, the video quality drops off dramatically whenever I have tried that.


Edit: Please excuse if I'm not making this clear. Firstly, This is NOT about Pulse audio. I'm totally aware of how to set up pulse audio. Now, My BIOS is set at HDMI Out. HD on board Disabled. So, S/PDIF is Disabled. However, the "Operating System" is only showing in Kmix S'PDIF Out. Also, if I enabled in the BIOS HD Audio then KMix is showing my Microphone for ...Playback. I've been using this Hook Up for Seven Months. So, I in NO Way mean to be disrespectful toward anyone!!!. As to Pulse Audio, I've tried to install it twice>task-pulseaudio>pavucontrol. When trying to activate it I get an Error Message that it is either corrupt or not set up properly. This is KDE X86_64 install. It is running Gr8. Bottom line is, The Operating System is NOT recognizing my HDMI Audio Pass Thru. I have a HDMI 1.4a Cable that works perfectly in Windows and other Linux Distro's. In summation, I have NO SOUND PERIOD. This is NOT just a YouTube Issue. No KDE Jingle, No Media Player Sound. NADA Nothing. LOL.

My advice would be to spend some time getting PulseAudio working properly as it provides an easy method of managing multiple sound devices and streams.
Essentially it puts the user in control via a GUI interface.

In order to prioritise your sound device you might find this helpful

Use the aplay command to determine which is the HDMI card and use that in your file.

.....  that is after making use of task-pulseaudio, enabling it and rebooting, and also installing pavucontrol to give the user interface for controlling things.

          You might consider editing your thread heading to better describe the problem .....  concentrating on the lack of sound to HDMI with the hardware details in the first post.
  I might be wrong, but it should, IMO, attract more people who might have answers to sound problems.

I'm guessing that you have a new computer.
--  If you have a new computer and the old kernel you can not have a driver.
The drivers are in the kernel, the newer the better.
In synaptic is the kernel, but I thing this is not new.
write in terminal

Nobody suggested you had a Youtube or browser problem.

Did you even try the suggestions made?
