New problem with Gutenprint 5.2.9 and NX200 printer. Solved
« on: March 03, 2013, 12:25:49 PM »
Just over a year ago we had a long discussion over the NX200 not printing colours correctly and I resolved it by using the TX200 driver in Gutenprint instead.

The latest version (5.2.9) of Gutenprint has solved that, colour register is fine, but now there's another problem: It won't print correctly in landscape format.  It prints to the width of a page (8.5 in for US letter) leaves a gap and then reprints part of what it has already printed.

I also had a problem when I tried to print a CD booklet on a custom size page (24x12 cm) - it just hangs.

Fortunately I still have my reliable old KDE 3.5 installation available in another partition and this (Gutenprint 5.2.4) prints OK.

Most of my printing is done from OpenOffice (the real thing not the substitute), but I also have had similar problems printing landscape  pdfs from Adobe, so I don't think it has anything to do with OOo versions.

This time the TX200 driver has the same problem, so my fix doesn't help.

How does one become a hero?  By asking a lot of dumb questions apparently! I have three computers of various ages, the most powerful is a Dell Netbook 10v; each has 2 or 3 versions of PCLOS of various vintages.  Location, St John's, Newfoundland.

Downloaded the latest KDE and ran from a live CD.  Tried the built in Libreoffice, same Gutenprint version, same result.

Just noticed that someone else with a different system has had a similar problem which was solved by changing the Printer Language Type" from PDF to PostScript (level from driver).  You do this from the printing menu >Properties>Device.  It's not persistent, so you have to change it each time.  This seems to have solved my problem with OOo at least.

Any way of making this setting the  default?  I tried PCC>hardware>printers - but couldn't find it.
