No LibreOffice??? (solved)
« on: March 01, 2013, 11:49:16 PM »
Just installed Mini 2013. There seems to be no way to install Libre Office. Not on the install, not in the repos. Is it supposed to be replaced with something else? What's going on?

LibreOffice is provided via an installation script called "LO manager".
Start Synaptic, Reload, Mark all updates.
Search for LO manager and mark for install.
Apply.
Exit Synaptic.
Run LO manager from PC menu.
Follow the instructions and you will have LibreOffice.

MiniMe is not the default .iso while regular KDE is. MiniMe is only suggested for experienced users who can and know what to install to get an exact system of choice or for packagers.

Thanks,sling-shot. I know how to install from Synaptic, but searching for "libre" there, or looking under "office" section shows up nothing. How are even experienced users supposed to know it's called LO? All's well that ends well, but this is a big flaw. Search function in Synaptic did list LOManager among 42 other irrelevant apps. Just seems surprisingly sloppy for pclos.

OK, pinoc, you want to be defensive, fine. But like I said, searching for Libre and getting 42 results, one of which is "LOmanager" or something, doesn't win and points for ease of use.

yeah, and searching for linux brings up 864 packages while searching for libreoffice brings up 2, right?

Please avoid posting in this tone. This is not going to win any points on interpersonal communication either I guess :(

A better response would have been something on the lines of "pinoc, I could not find it since it was named LO Manager and I searched for libre and office. Would you please consider changing its name to LibreOffice Manager or something like that?"

-----------

Pinoc spends considerable time in making software work for us and I do take this opportunity to thank him for that. At times he seems to have a bunch of bots working for him considering the packages he does!
Thank you pinoc.

Would you please consider renaming your excellent LO Manager? :)

Right.
No need to rename it !

P.S. Synaptic has six modes of search, by the way...

OK, I think this was insulting:
MiniME is for advanced users who know how to search in Synaptic and how to update their system regularly;)

I've been updating and using Synaptic search for many years. I was pointing out a small problem with an app name in Synaptic.. I shoulda-coulda looked harder before posting. It was a bad computer day because of other issues.

To be clear, I'm well aware of pinoc's incredible work -- in awe of it, in fact. He and many others are keeping the best Linux distro going, and I'm just one of many who thank him every time we turn on our computers. This was nothing personal, just frustration talking.
