I gave up milk as a 'drink' when it became difficult to get raw milk from a known good source.
In my youth we never drank the milk from a cow that had an illness or injection of anything no matter how acceptable the injection ...  always only from cows in perfect health.

Well, it is like this for me. However whole milk is processed now in the U.S. ,I like the way it tastes. I would hate for that to change.
There is a 5th dimension, beyond that which is known to man.It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity, between science& superstition,& it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call PCLINUXOS!

+1

I believe that pasteurizing does more to destroy milk nutrition than it does to protect health.

the pasteurization process can change the milk, yes, but i prefer that to end in a hospital than discover the wonders of milk without that process

Got diet milk? In a highly controversial move, the dairy industry wants to market artificially sweetened milk—without any special label to alert consumers.

In a petition filed with the FDA, the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) and the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) seek to change the definition of “milk” so that chemical sweeteners like aspartame and sucralose can be used as optional ingredients not listed on the product label.

What is wrong with these idiots ???  So much for a healthy drink of milk!  Don't we already add enough sugar to the products we use or consume?

I sure hope they don't do that, too much sugar and artificial sweeteners isn't good for you.
The other day I was looking at a box of Windsor Salt and noticed that they added sugar to the salt!
Crazy.

most recipes using salt requires sugar, some desserts require lots of sugar and a bit of salt

weird how salt and sugar works together under certain situations

the problem is that both are bad for your health in the way those are being used in the food we eat

avoid completely slat and sugar seems to be good, artificial sweeteners are for the moment the best solution but the less you use them, the better

right now i'm using splenda, but as any product out there, there is lots of concerns about it, seems to be basically the same as the popular aspartame

"Over the last decade or so, evidence has emerged proving that both artificial sweeteners aspartame and Splenda may be bad for your health. Though both were created as sugar substitutes and designed to be more healthy than sugar, aspartame and Splenda both have negative side effects that might make you want to stick to sugar, or try to stop eating and drinking sugar-based products altogether. While you can use both aspartame and Splenda in moderation and enjoy them without any of the negative side effects, you should know how each of them affects your body. This will give you the opportunity to decide whether you would like to use one of them or skip them both."

i like it more than aspartame based products but in general i only use it on my coffee

does it ring a bell?

I'm one of those people that are Lactose intolerant.  I buy that frackin' Lactaid 2% milk at 4.50 dollars for a 1/2 gallon.  It's the pits, when diary products does a number on the stomach... like cheese, ice-cream, yogurt, sauces...

You might like to try Stevia ......  although of late there are a few 'processed' products in the Stevia line that would not meet with my acceptance.
Stevia appears to be the best sugar replacement available at present ....  but choose carefully. The closest you can get to pure natural Stevia the better.

I advise dropping ALL products with fructose/hi-fructose/etc  added.

On top of being lactose intolerant, I am also a diabetic.

So whenever buying anything in a grocery store.... I have to look at the Nutritional chart, to see if the calories & carbohydrates are acceptable.

For those who have the interest and the time, I found this video to be enlightening.
Be warned it is long (~1.5 hours) and does get rather technical in parts.
It is a pity the video is not in HD as most of the technical slides are difficult to read at low resolution.

It would be dreadful if they can get away with adding that to milk......

On a side note - It opened my eyes when I watched a Jamie Oliver TV show(s) both here in the UK and in West Virginia, America where he went into schools to try get them to give the kids healthy(ier) food - and at the same time teach them good eating habits.

He did a lot to change things in the UK but I can't recall how it went in the States as I particularly remember him being reduced to tears at the West Virginian school.

What was very disheartening - and appalling - was that some  youngsters couldn't even name certain vegetables

yes i have, it is very good, better than sugar and splenda or any other product, completely natural

the problem is that i find in it a flavor similar to anise, and i don't like it because it makes me remember certain liquor sold here that uses lots of anise
