[Solved]Unable to mount volume<--(a usb stick)
« on: March 01, 2013, 06:24:36 AM »
Yesterday, I was updating my system via Synaptic.  All the while, I had left one of my USB drives in it's port.  After updating I shut down my computer. Hours later I booted my system then inserted the same flash drive in the port I normally use. Moments later, I get the following in a dialog box:

Cannot Mount volume.

Unable to mount the volume '(name of my usb drive)'.

Details-->Cannot get volume.fstype.alternative

How do I restore the drive?  I have no problems with my other USB sticks.  This is a new problem to me so give me step by step in plain English please!

Formatted in NTFS?

There was a ntfs-3g package update this week.

@Daniel--Somehow, it corrected itself on its own!  Cannot explain it. About eight hours after I started the thread, the problem disappeared!
