How do i install the MATE or Cinnamon desktops to my pclinuxos

my wife is screaming for the desktop she is used to after i changed from linuxmint i know pclinuxos people are mostly kde fans but will are there any know problems installing mate ?

PCLinuxOS does not support MATE and Cinnamon currently so if you really want to use them you have to compile them yourself. So we can't know if there are any problems exist.

As Mate is a fork of Gnome 2, you might have some success by installing Gnome .....  search Synaptic for
task-gnome

you will be pleased to hear my wife has not only got used to kde but has fell in love with it and demanded i put pclinuxos on her netbook good job i can never get her to change her mind  ;D

Why do that? If she's happy let her use what she likes.
After all KDE is better than MATE or Cinnamon in many ways (personal opinion).

I have recently tried out MATE and Cinnamon (on Linux Mint 14) for the purposes of a magazine article.
I must say the developers have done a good job in a very limited time.
Of course I'm a big KDE fan and it would take more than a "good job" to make me change it.
But it would be interesting to have these two Desktop Environments in PCLinuxOS.
They would be fast as hell!

What is the difference between mate and cinammon and kde and gnome and lxde?

They are all Desktop Environments, with many differences between them.

MATE is a fork of the old GNOME 2.xx. Has the looks and functionality and provides a suite of applications (web browser, text editor etc) that also have been forked from the GNOME 2.xx ones.

Cinnamon is a fork of GNOME 3.x, initially developed by (and for) Linux Mint. It's purpose is to improve the functionality and appearance of GNOME 3.x and provide a more "traditional" desktop experience.

You will have the chance to read all about Desktop Environments and Window Managers in the next issue of PCLinuxOS Magazine.
