USB dos not mount in PCManFM
« on: February 27, 2013, 10:35:09 AM »
My USB drive, when I plug it in, does not mount.  Only when I mount in Dolphin does it come up.

Not sure ht has changed as this drive used to mount when plugged in.

Could be udisks is  the culprit here.  http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,109959.0.html

Working udisks: http://mirror.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/mirror/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2010/RPMS.main/udisks-1.0.4-2pclos2011.i586.rpm

You have to remove udisks with synaptic (could be it removes some other packages too)
Start konsole or terminal and root to su.

Go to your download folder where the udisks rpm is downloaded
Type then: rpm -Uvh *.rpm

Thanks. I saw this thread but was confused. I thought it was rectified with older packages being put in place of the newer (culprit) package.

Okay, removed usdisks and installed rpm package provided.  No change.  USB still does not mount.  I did not do a COMPLETE REMOVAL of udisks, however. Just a standard removal.  Not sure if this makes a difference.

It mounts in Dolphin with no problem.  As long as I have that, then it's a fine work-a-round.  Once mounted, PCManFM can access. PCManFM just cannot mount.

I'm curious:  what brand and size of drive are you using, or did it make any difference?  I just bought an Emtec 32 GB drive (on sale at Office Depot for $15), and it is really fast, and mounts perfectly with my updated 2012.08 KDE4/LXDE-powered laptop.

Glad to hear it's working for you again.

I'd like to add to this. I was having the *exact* same issue with this recently, even after following a few members suggestions of updating/installing/downgrading udisk along with using dolphin. However, for whatever reason, after doing a complete reinstall (using the same iso as before, suddenly it works perfectly fine :|

Very strange

Strange, indeed. I remember having a problem with my Gateway 3522GZ a while back where it would shut down its USB subsystem until such time as I powered down and restarted after a minute or two's rest.

Y'all don't suspect a hardware problem here if I recall correctly, right?  (In my case cited above, I had exceeded the current capacity of the USB hub in the laptop.)
