Lenovo R60 screen goes black
« on: April 30, 2013, 09:08:49 PM »
I just installed PCLinuxOS KDE 64-bit on my Lenovo R60 laptop and after sitting for a few minutes the screen goes black.  The only way to get the display back is to reboot the computer.  This same distro works great on my desktop so it must be some setting the laptop doesn't like.  I tried installing KDE4-noblank, but the problem did not go away.  The laptop uses Intel 945GM video.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Mark

Maybe works this?

Login as root.
Type: XFdrake
Search for the driver Intel 810 or later
Add it and reboot your system.

Have the same video chipset on my laptop (the laptop is 32bit only)

I believe the R60 is 32 bit.  Like my T60, it will only support up to 3 GB of memory, which is a dead giveaway.
IBM Thinkpad T60
Core2 Duo 1.83GHz, 3 GB Ram
Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller
PCLinuxOS 2013, 32 bit
3.2.18-pclos2.bfs kernel,
KDE 4.10.1

This laptop IS 64-bit.  FYI, HP (Lenovo) made several versions of the R60 with different screen sizes, more or less RAM, and either 32 or 64 bit processors.  I have 3 R60s - 1 is 32bit and 2 are 64 bit.  Anyway, I checked in the PCLinuxOS Control Center and the Intel 810 or Later driver is installed.  That being said,  my original problem remains in that, with PCLinuxOS KDE 64-bit, after about 10 minutes the screen goes black and the only way to get it back is to reboot the pc.  I found an older 32 bit version, loaded it, and it has the same problem so it appears to be a hardware issue to the Lenovo R60.  I believe I have the screen saver disabled as well.  Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Mark

I wasn't all that certain, but you are right.  I researched the processors further and the T7200 is, in fact,  64 bit.  My bad.

Try Fn + Brightness UP button when screen goes black.
