Hi friends, I have this little problem that have me a little mad, I downloaded some subtitle "SRT" file for a movie, when I decided to delete the file dolphin says that the file cannot be deleted because the file doesn't exist, but as you can see in the images below the files are in the downloads folder, I have tried (right-click) deleting it as root, opening dolphin as root from konsole (su, dolphin), logged-in into the root account, going in to the file and tried to delete to no avail, so I'm asking the gurus here @ PCLINUXOS if you know some way that I haven't tried to force the system to flush or delete once 4 all the freaking file, is like the file has more control over the system than me the owner of the computer, this is what pisses me off the most!

It looks like that file has characters encoded in a format dolphin does not understand.

try to rename it first to something like "xxx" and then try to delete it.

you can also try to delete it from the terminal
.. 3 things are certain in life : death, taxes and software bloat ..
.. tell me something i don't know, something i can use as i struggle to reason with the world around me ..

Hi muungwana, I have tried renaming it, but that didn't worked, can you give me the right commands to use in terminal to delete the file?

P.S. Have noticed that this behavior never happened to me before when I used other DE like XFCE, LXDE, Gnome, MATE, ect... only in KDE have seen this kind of issue!

First navigate to the directory containing the file then enter the command   rm -rf *.srt  then press the Enter key.

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

It looks like this is a known bug and it was first reported years ago: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=165044

The bug report has a sample contents with "wrong" encoding dolphin failed to delete here and it was possible to delete from the terminal.

Thank you Muungwuana for the info, it's a shame this issue or bug still exist!

Thank you Old Pollack, the "rm -rf *.srt" command worked like a charm!

I know this feeling. Something in your computer telling you what you cannot delete it in your computer! What nerve!  :D :D
