streaming radio - locating addresses
« on: February 23, 2013, 10:46:05 AM »
I lost my radio stream addresses (forgot about it and wiped and reinstalled) and now I need to get them back. I've searched for the stream online and am having difficulty. I remembered an old thread here (http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,83813.0.html) and thought it had information about how to get them. What is the best way to find this information?

Most radio stations have a link for listening on their site, and the info can be got from that in most cases.

Some also supply alternative URLs for listening.

So without the station name I have no ideas ....  other than getting links from the likes of streamtuner2 or other ...

If you use Clementine for music, it has many radio stations available in the Internet sidebar.
You can use the station addresses there in other players afai-remember. Haven't used it in awhile.
Maybe I'll play with it again.  ;D

p.s. now I remember getting station addresses here;
http://dir.xiph.org/index.php
Not sure if that is what you are looking for.  :)

Maybe this will help ...

Go to http://www.shoutcast.com/. Since I have the CoLT plugin for Firefox, I right click on the link for the station I want to listen to and copy the link location to the clipboard. Then, copy that link into your favorite streaming audio app (e.g., Radio Tray), and you can listen to that station. Be sure to fill in the rest of the "data" that your player asks for (station name, group to put it under, etc.).

I keep my radio station URL's as both  a document, and since I use Radiotray for them, once I load it.. I download the .xml copy of the bookmarks from there. I keep a copy of both, in dropbox.

craesz,

Here's a couple more ...

Go to http://www.181fm.com, and click on the link in the link "toolbar" at the top of the page for WinAmp & iTunes users. You will be brought to a page with a LOT of MP3 playlists that you can stream.

Go to http://www.skyfm.com, and right click > Copy the URL for any of the links to streams that you might want to listen to. When inserting the links into Radio Tray, delete everything at the end of the link, from the "?" to the end.

You should be swimming in music and tunes, now!
