desktop effects zoom SOLVED
« on: February 23, 2013, 09:09:46 AM »
So, I don't know if I'm having this problem cuz of my specific computer or the version I have or what, but I just downloaded full monty last week on my hp pavilion dv3.

I am legally blind so I want to be able to zoom my screen like on a Mac or Windows 7 magnifier and I found where it is in "desktop effects > all affects" but I can't seem to make changes or activate it.  I tried checking the box and then went in to change the commands just to see if I could apply that change, but the apply button never became clickable in either case.  I tried to change other effects by activating them and then the apply button appeared...when I clicked it, it said "KWin Windows Manager could not activate the following" and zoom was on the list.  Any idea?

Hi achromatic - big welcome to the forum.

Please go to the KWiin > All  Effects page and making sure the Zoom option is  is enabled go to the right hand side off the Zoom line you should see an icon with a  spanner on it.

Click on the spanner icon and it  should see the image below

Now select one of the shortcuts and it should show two fields -  Default and the other is Custom

If the Default isn't to your liking choose the Custom one

With the Custom one enabled click on the button that says None and you can now enter your own choice of  shortcut keys

When done, press the OK button and hopefully it will work for you

hey thanks for your reply...my issue was actually getting the effect to apply but it turns out i just needed to go into advanced settings and switch compositing type from openGL to xrender, YAY!  I did choose custom settings for it, though, for sure!
