« on: February 22, 2013, 11:47:10 AM »
hey people having trouble burning the 64 bit dvd version with k3b :(. i have downloaded the iso along with the 32 bit dvd version (2013.2). the md5 sums come out correct and no problem burning - installing the 32 bit version ;D but when i attempt to burn the 64 bit version the error happens at about the 1.35 gb stage ???. this has happened 3 times in a row, >:( each time with a different iso downloaded from a different mirror ;). any ideas? :-\

the burn hangs at 1375 mb (96%) total size says 1428 mb.

You reported no problem with the burning and installation of the 32bit image, yet I see the blue highlighted line above. Why are you not doing the burn of the 64bit image on the new up-to-date 32bit installation?   ???

yes you are correct i did this last burn attempt on my machine which will not update :-\ (failed to download all repository packages) for the sake of getting the debuging output ;). which is the same exact problem my wifes computer was having (could not update) :-\ untill i loaded the 2013.2 iso on it ;). it does have the newest k3b fully updated as of this morning and her machine gives the same error when trying to burn the 64 bit iso :o. so far we have 2 failed attempts on my machine :( and 3 failed attempts on the wifes machine :P (which is fully updated) ;). i am wanting the 64 bit for my netbook as its running a ssd drive etc. ;D
i just dont get it. iv never had an issue with k3b and been using it since 2005.

When you burn a disk, do you check the Verify written data box?

no i quit using the verify written data couple of years ago as the time was much longer ::) and never really had any problems ;). i do a lot of ripping, writing, transcoding etc :P of audio and video files with little to no problems (other than user ignorance) ;D but if your suggesting to try the verify written data i can do that. ;)

Yes, that's what I'm asking you to do. I had a couple of burns that seemed to get truncated, so I clicked the verify box. That burn, and all since, have been spot on here. Worth a shot.

Also, I use only DVD+RW disks, so none get wasted, even if a single burn seems dodgy; I just burn it again.

oops took a little nap after my daily bicycle ride. am trying the verify written data option on my wifes machine as i type this on my machine. trying to load the new 32 bit iso on this machine brings me to the login prompt that several other users have had with the older agp cards so ill try some of their suggestions to get to a desktop later tonight i believe galeen reported in a post reply that the nvidia 173 driver was the culprit in this particular release. oh well time and typing will tell. im guessing framebuffer option will work.
oh its done, bummer a fatal error during recording input/output error at 1362 mb. never made it to the verify portion. shoot. hmmm. maybe ill try to burn it on my netbooks external dvd drive.
the dvd-r's im using was a partial payment for cleaning the vermin out of an aquintance's win7 laptop, rather nasty infestation on that thing so they are not a big deal at this point, but dvd-rw good advice and point taken.
well ill go down to the basement beer wine making room and retrieve the netbook and give that a whirl unless you have a different approach/idea.

Just don't imbibe too much while you're down there, or you might not remember the primary mission.  ;D ;D

yes good advice although working the night shift at the motel i have plenty of time on my hands so the homemade hard cider is looking good. the netbook is charging so in the meantime im working on my normal machine. i succeded in loading the 2013.2 on my machine (on wifes machine now) using fb option but still getting dropped to the shell so the agp 8 issue still persists. while i reread the posts concerning this i will attempt to burn the 64 bit iso on the external and post back. thank you for the support. i remember about 5 years ago suggesting your forum name should be old vampire because it seemed day or night you were online helping someone. anyway thanks.

Try setting up the display/graphic card again, but when asked if you want to use the proprietary driver click no. That should set you up with the open source nouveau driver, which last time I used it did a pretty good job. I wasn't running any 3D effects, but I got a decent GUI desktop.

If that works, leave it that way until the nvidia driver gets fixed.

im on my machine now going to xfdrake with the noveau driver did not work :( but the second suggestion to try vesa did ;) although the res is not the greatest but at least i can get to the desktop :). will wait for the nvidia 173-x fix. the iso is downloading on the netbook as i type so it will be awhile. :-\ yes the homade hard cider is good (and getting better the more i consume) :P so i believe by the time i get to the iso burn stage it wont matter if it errors out or not ill still be a happy injun :D and try somthing else. ;) i am a little intrigued as to weather its a software issue or hardware problem though. ???

well i tried to burn the iso on my machine with the 2013.2 fully updated and got the same error again. while i was looking at the debugging report i noticed that the size of the reported burn just before the error was 1.4 gb. so i loaded the live cd option with fb and wahla it booted and seemed to run ok. i will try the iso on the netbook as an install and see where that leads. it appears that k3b is having issues with reporting actual ammounts of data written or percieved by the program but wont know for sure without further testing. i did notice that there was not an option to check media on this release i did want to try that.

i put the iso (with the error) into my machine and looked at the size in dolphin and it reported 1,498,237,179 bytes so i went ahead and loaded it on the netbook and everything is going ok. it must be a software issue in k3b. at least i have 6 dvd's to give away. ;D
  will mark as resolved kinda
