This desktop?

My pc finally crashed and the gigabyte mobo or amd cpu is fried. I think its the mobo because there are a bunch of swelled capacitors. She lived 10yrs. (rarely powered down. replaced the pwr supply and mobo once from a lightning strike about 8yrs ago).

Looking a for another machine.

What do you think of this? My budget is $400 and this is a little more but I like the 2gb video card vs 1gb. Will pclinux run on it wonderfully?

My main machine is an ASUS mother board with a quad core AMD processor so I like the hardware in the bundle.

I believe that it is a lot more than your budget though because I do not believe for a minute that you will ever see the rebate money.

Even if you do, you could have gone to the nearest fast food restaurant and taken on a minimum wage part time job to make up the rebate money and spent fewer hours of your valuable time than you will have spent trying to collect any rebate.

In case you have not figured it out, I believe that 99 percent of all rebate offers are scams and will never support a company that uses them by buying any product tied to a rebate.

A $500.00 machine in August 2012 maybe is a $400.00 now if you roll your sleeves; besides, if you have an ATX case, the power supply and the optical drive maybe you can put more memory.

Is just an example, there are several articles about it, if you are in the USA it should be easy to find the components.

docnascar,

I agree with ThirdOfSix on getting ANY rebate from Tiger Direct - I wasted a bit of my time on my last purchase from them trying to get MY rebate - Forget it.   As ThirdOfSix says, They are a SCAM company.

The rebate was just $45.00, but they didn't think i should have it, so they can shove it - and i will shop elsewhere.

I will never EVER buy again from TIGER DIRECT or CompUSA...

I have also had bad experience with Tiger Direct. I would advise buying from NewEgg or Amazon. I know many people don't like Amazon because they're trying to become a monopoly so that may be a no go. Mwave.com is another site I have purchased from and had good luck.

Thanks, but all of that stuff is too slow and/or a little under powered.

You can work with Eric to choose the components you want, and he'll build a unit to suit.

You can also make a list and check for the particular components you want on Newegg, to see their current prices. Before making any purchase, check the same items on Amazon. Newegg usually has pretty good prices, but sometimes Amazon has better, on some of the selected items.

If you signup at Newegg to receive emails about special price events, you'll get pretty much daily emails, and at least two per week with Promo Codes that give extra discounts beyond the current listed price. I got my last two Seagate 2 TB hard drives for $89.99 each, my new case for $10.00 less then the already discounted price, 16 GB G.Skill low latency DDR3 1600 gamers RAM for $59.98, and a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000, which is usually $49.99, for $19.99 using the promo codes. Even then, I check Amazon before placing an order, because if Amazon gets wind of a super special at Newegg, they will either meet it, or beat it, but only for as long as the Newegg deal is in effect.

Of what use be there for joy, if not for the sharing thereof?

I bought a video card that featured a fantastic rebate with it. It took a year and finally filing a formal complaint with Tiger Directs local Better Business Bureau to receive the rebate!!
I would suggest looking at Newegg as I have never had any problems with them
