(SOLUTION FOUND) Ink levels on Epson Stylus Photo RX520
« on: February 21, 2013, 08:46:47 AM »
I've very recently converted yet another friend to PCLOS (KDE with LXDE desktop). He's having a whale of a time with something that's fast, stable and does exactly what he wants it to do. With one exception. He can't - nor can I - find any program in the repo which will monitor the ink levels in his Epson Stylus Photo RX520.  I've checked out mtink but it doesn't include this printer in its index. Anybody any relevant experience of this printer? And in case gutenprint can do what mtink can't, can anyone tell me how to run that? Apologies for being such a dork in printing matters.

I may be wrong but I believe that printer has a small display panel on the front. He should be able to check the ink levels using buttons on the printer. I found a user manual online using this search "epson stylus photo rx520 manual" without quotes.

Many thanks gandy. I'll download the manual. And from memory, I'm pretty sure you're right - there is a display panel on the front. I'll check if it gives the ink levels. Thank you again. I'll report back.

Yes - you're right. There is an ink-level indicator on his printer. It turns out his problem with that has been that he's getting on a bit now, the display's quite small and his eyes aren't what they used to be . :) He was hoping for something he wouldn't have to strain so much to see. But unless there's something else around I haven't discovered, I'm afraid he'd have to buy a magnifying glass! Thanks gandy once again.

You're welcome.

I have an Epson Stylus CX8400 and I could never find anything in the repo about ink level monitoring. At least it is built in to the printer. It will also give a message if it's out of ink in one cartridge and won't print. Mine has a fairly large display in full color and is easy to see even for my weak eyes. I think the Epson Stylus Photo RX520 has a smaller display panel.
