+100...

You want the magazine to be better? Make it so. Give us a sample of Your great work - send it to Parnote and maybe we will see it in next release.

I have contributed at least good few articles over the last few years. How many have You supplied? Zero. Nada. Zilch. Big bobkas... If and that's a big IF You will start contributing - You can start making comments - till then - no one person gives a rat's tail (and the part of it's body its attached to) about Your opinions and comments.

I am hoping to see what Parnote will say when he sees this thread... If I were You I would remove it before he does...

Regards.

Andrzej

willigenericos2013;

I will have to say the same thing as AndrzejL and Waldo22 (although AndrzejL's eloquence is certainly unique)...
This is a community magazine, and all content has been contributed by members of this community. If you will notice, there are (not very many) authors who contribute all the time, and several others who contribute occasionally. We appreciate ALL contributors to the magazine. However, if there is something else you would like to see in the magazine, I too suggest that you contribute to the magazine, as the small staff now in place has no time to take on any more...

I see you haven't been here very long, so please take the time to see what's here before you get all critical...

We REALLY appreciate all suggestions and concerns! There are just not enough of us to add any more features (like puzzles) to the magazine... and many of our articles are already how-tos. If there is a specific how-to you would like to see, we have an idea thread in this section http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,86648.0.html...please post your idea there.

Thanks to Waldo22 and AndrzejL for their great comments...

Personally, I think the PCLOS magazine team does a superb job.

I look forward to each and every issue.

As you started the thread you could actually delete it yourself.

On the other hand there's nothing wrong with your telling us what you'd like to see in the magazine. If you had known that the magazine doesn't have a large well-paid editorial staff, you probably would have expressed yourself differently. On the other hand, that you didn't indicates that the unpaid editors do a first-rate professional job. But you want something more? So really - why not help out?

And what kind of puzzles were you talking about?

Well, to start off with, I don't want this topic deleted. Neither me, or the rest of the magazine staff, have anything to hide.

willigenericos,

I would certainly welcome ANY contributions to the magazine that you would like to make. But please be sure that they relevant to our target audience (Linux and/or PCLinuxOS related, and related to the PCLinuxOS community at large).

As Meemaw has already pointed out, the magazine is produced by volunteers from the PCLinuxOS community. I have been the volunteer editor of The PCLinuxOS Magazine since July, 2009. I am a former photojournalist, and have formal training in all aspects of journalism. I am a former professional, award-winning newspaper photographer. But, if you have other insights that I am lacking, I would certainly be glad to hear them.

As for the rest of the staff ... if I recall correctly, Meemaw has been the volunteer assistant editor of the magazine since October, 2009. Prior to that, she was a regular contributor to the magazine. Just the two of us do as much as we can every month, while holding down gainful employment and maintaining a balance with family life. Another small handful of members from the PCLinuxOS community contribute articles as they are able. Others, such as georgetoon and ms_meme, have been regular, monthly contributors to the magazine for as long as I've been the editor.

The fact that you didn't realize that the magazine was put together by volunteers from the PCLinuxOS community speaks volumes. As back-handed of a compliment as that may be, I'll take it. It surely must mean that we are doing a pretty damned good job.

You say that the magazine "needs improvements." Would you care to elaborate on what kind of improvements you think it needs? Chances are good that we might have already discussed them. Are the improvements you suggest related to the layout? Or are they related to the content? Your non-specific statement certainly deserves an explanation.

Puzzles? We're a Linux magazine. What kind of puzzles would be best fitting for a Linux magazine? Please enlighten me. The last time I was at the newsstand, I saw plenty of books and magazines to choose from that had nothing BUT puzzles in them. However, I saw NO magazines that targeted Linux users, as we do.

As for more "how to" articles ... how many more would you like to see? There are at least two per issue. Or are the ones we've featured just topics you don't happen to be interested in?

Anyone and everyone is welcome to contribute to the magazine, in whatever way they are able. Some write articles. Others help proofread the articles. Others test out the information to make sure it's factual. Others help with the layout. So ... tell me ... how can YOU contribute to the magazine? I'm eager to see how you can will contribute.

Feel free to send me a private message, if you don't want to discuss this openly here in the forum. You can rest assured that your comments have NOT upset or angered me. Rather, everything always has room for improvements, and we who put out the magazine are very interested in your ideas. Your generalized and non-specific critique simply needs further discussion. As they say, "I'm all ears."

I know that I don't post very often, but in this case I feel that I must. I have to say that I'm pretty disappointed by the responses of some core members (not you, Bald Brick - I liked what you had to say). If I had started this thread and seen some of these responses, it would make me run for the hills, searching for a place where I had a chance to provide input without being lambasted. Somewhere, I read "The PCLinuxOS Magazine is produced by members of the community, for the PCLinuxOS community. As such, you should have some input regarding what you want to see in it (it's been this way all along)." Where did I see that? Ah yes, the first post in the Magazine Article Ideas thread.

These responses also tell me that the magazine volunteers feel very unappreciated right now. If that's the case, I'm sorry to hear it. I know that it's a thankless task, to say the least. I know that the kudos are few, but the criticism flows freely when the tiniest imperfection (or even the appearance of one) is detected. Still, it's no reason to jump all over a member of the community, even if he only has 11 posts. There has to be a better way of dealing with those feelings of frustration than doing this.

With that being said, I now await my turn to be berated for voicing my opinion. Please have mercy on me.

Writing as one who has made a few contributions to the magazine, I do know just how hard it is to come up with fresh and interesting ideas. Oh how I wish I could write more small articles but, having scratched my head down to sawdust level, I have, so far, been at a loss for another idea.

Having said all that, I really appreciate the efforts of Paul and his team to produce such a high quality issue each month.

Perhaps this idea should go in a different thread, one where the idea is apparently welcomed.

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,86648.0.html

It's a simple suggestion by a forum member.

willigenericos2013, I feel a personal apology is in order. You have simply stated some good ideas and I feel that you have been held responsible for there results.

Good ideas do not mean that you must produce them.

I apologize for the forum's response.
