<Answered>Install Last Pass To Chrome

In Firefox and Seamonkey Last Pass (password saver ) installs easily as an add-on but in Chrome it gives me a Tar file to download. Is there an easy way to install Last Pass to Chrome? Is this something I should ask for in New Package Requests?

Using Latest Google Chrome (Version 24.0.1312.69) (not Chromium) from Synaptic. Fully updated KDE.

You have to select "To download another item, view the full list of downloads for your platform." from the LastPass download page.



This will take you to another page where you can download the plugin.



If you select the "No Binary Features" option, you will be redirected to Chrome Web Store and add the plugin.

If you select the "Binary Features" option. you will download a .crx file. Chrome will tell you that it can not add the extension.
What you have to do is open the "Extensions" tab in Chrome and then drag and drop this file on it from the folder you have downloaded it.
This will install the extension.

About the "binary" component:

The "binary" component of the browser plugin controls a few LastPass features:

1. Autologoff on browser close (LastPass Icon > Preferences)
2. Autologoff on browser idle (LastPass Icon > Preferences)
3. Share login state between browsers (LastPass Icon > Preferences > Advanced)

Did I read that there were problems running LastPass on Chrome ......  did the LastPass devs sort out the problems I wonder?

LastPass for Google Chrome now contains support  for basic authentication.
1. As long as you're running the version of LastPass for Google Chrome with binary features, filling is supported for Windows and Mac OS X (Linux isn't supported at this time). LastPass Icon > Tools > About  - Binary Component: True
2. Saving basic auth logins is now supported in Chrome; however, it may not work on all basic auth logins.  Saving in FireFox still offers the best basic authentication support.
3. Basic authentication for Mac OS X requires that you enable access for assistive devices.
   In OS X  10.7 or less by going to Apple > System Preferences > Universal Access and checking "Enable access for assistive devices".
   In OS X 10.8+ by going to Apple > System Preferences > Accessibility and checking   "Enable access for assistive devices". at the bottom.

Thanks. I got the non binary version installed. The installation for binary version didn't seem to work at all. Not sure if the non binary is sharing correctly, vault shows empty. Experience with Chrome for the umpteenth time installing has only slightly changed my "not ready for prime time" opinion.

I have the "Binary Features" installed in my Chrome under 64bit and it works well.
You just have to follow the procedure I described.
