Chinese hackers... A.P.T. 1 aka Unit 61398

Mandiant released a report of the post-breach analysis. They have not only revealed the identities of the hacker but also their methods.

The report (pdf) file:

http://intelreport.mandiant.com/Mandiant_APT1_Report.pdf

and a virustotal scan results for the above pdf file:

APT1: Exposing One of China's Cyber Espionage Units

More?

Cheers.

Andrzej

P.S. Apt1 is not the only Chinese hackers group. For example Apt1 is not responsible for cracking the New York times door.

I suppose there could well be a good career for Hackers, or Government subsidies in China, whereas I don't think so in the West  :D Then again (putting on my Tin Foil hat) what if Anti Virus companies in the 'West' create most Viruses, to keep the Industry strong ?

p.s. Thanks for scanning the http://intelreport.mandiant.com/Mandiant_APT1_Report.pdf file Andy.

Tony

No worries dude. I try to be responsible that way. If I post a link to a flash video or pdf or something that could be dodgy - I am trying to scan it first if possible.

Regards.

On the ABC TV News (Aus) this evening, concern about just how much 'Hacking' is coming at us (everyone) out of China is rising, raising the question who and how many Chinese are spying on 'Our' sensitive data. "Shields up", and a determined effort at online security are at last becoming points of interest in Australia finally.

Opening spiel from the above report .(pdf) posted by AndrzejL

Quote
"...China’s economic espionage has reached an intolerable level
and I believe that the United States and our allies in Europe and
Asia have an obligation to confront Beijing and demand that they
put a stop to this piracy.
Beijing is waging a massive trade war on us all, and we should
band together to pressure them to stop. Combined, the United
States and our allies in Europe and Asia have significant
diplomatic and economic leverage over China, and we should
use this to our advantage to put an end to this scourge.”1

— U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, October, 2011

Quote
It is unprofessional and groundless to accuse
the Chinese military of launching cyber attacks
without any conclusive evidence.”2
— Chinese Defense Ministry, January, 2013

-- [ Aside: Calling; stealing via the Net "Piracy" has gone out of favour with persons wanting it stopped in the U.S. with Johny Depp's portrayal of a pirate having become so popular. Trivia, ... :D ]
