KSnapshot--again
« on: February 19, 2013, 09:53:08 PM »
This relates to a recent install from scratch of 2012.12.  KSnapshot crashes if I snap on "Send to".  I reported to the bugreport people and got this exchange:

Sorry, I never use PCLOS, so I really can't help you solve it. I can only suggest you asking in support channels (forum, mailing list, irc) of PCLOS for further instruction.

A previous thread suggested a problem with digikam, so I removed it, but it didn't help. Another previous thread suggested a list of 7 files that
could affect the situation so I reinstalled them, to no avail. There is a clumsy workaround--telling KS to save the file, looking to see where it
put it, and then opening it in Gwenview, but I don't think it's as sharp, and that's a slow way to go.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

Did you click the Send To button, after taking a screen shot? It crashes every time for me, on both the 64bit and 32bit installations. I tried immediately after taking the shot, and after saving it. Either way it crashes instantly. All other functions work as expected.

I started from a terminal, three times, and took this screen shot after the third crash in a row.

Yes, I took a snapshot, then sent it to gimp, and it worked as expected. I have a are recent kde mini, with task-lxde. I started ksnapshot from the 'Run' menu.

I just did a fresh MiniMe installation, did a full upgrade, then added KDE graphics and Gimp. Took a screenshot with Ksnapshot, clicked Send To... button, and it crashed, exactly the same as on the full KDE installation.

I'm not sure how my system is different. I have all of the standard kde4 and qt libs, nothing from testing except a few unrelated libraries that I've built.

Code: [Select]
[galen@localhost ~]$ ksnapshot --version
Qt: 4.8.4
KDE Development Platform: 4.9.5
KSnapshot: 0.8.2
[galen@localhost ~]$

In a terminal run this command, put the resultant file in your dropbox Public folder, then send me a link to it by PM.

rpm -qa --qf '%{NAME}\t\tinstall\n' | sort > ~/galen-installed-packages.txt

I'll run a diff on it to compare it with what I have installed, then install the odd apps one at a time until we find what it is that's needed to have the Send To... button work.

I guess the problem must be sought in the Kipi-plugins.

64 bit

Installed the following packages:
kipi-plugins (3.0.0-1pclos2013)
kipi-plugins-libs (3.0.0-1pclos2013)

Ksnapshot began to crash once the 'Send To' button was clicked.

Prior to that it worked well.

Uninstalling Kipi-plugins fixed Ksnapshot again.

Tried removing kipi-plug-ins. Yes, KSnapshot doesn't crash when you snap on "Send to" but you don't get the option to send to print.
That's what I need it to do--otherwise, it's almost useless--like the snip tool in Windows.

I thought it was still working on my laptop, which is also up to date--no such luck--it crashes there too.

Is there some way to get older versions of the tools/libs that this needs?

Maybe someone should consider trying to rebuild the kdegraphics srpm against the updated kipi packages and see if it resolves the ksnapshot crashing issue.

Thanks to everyone who donates. You keep the servers running.
